Kevin (insearchoffish) and I have been discussing a 2 or 3 day float on Sacramento River starting in Anderson.

Camp overnight, tent or under the stars. River flows are down to 5600 cfs, normal this time of year is 10000 cfs.

Fishing on the river is good now, some nice trout, salmon are running, steelhead are starting to show up and there are more SMB around moving out of the creeks which have real low flow.

If you are interested let us know, beenfishin suggested camping at mouth of Cottonwood Creek then fishing barge hole early morning.

UPDATE:

We are planning Oct. 16-17 - two days.

Need to get a solid head count soon for shuttle and vehicle count.

I'd be up for a trip.  Just need enough advanced notice to get the time off, unless you are thinking of doing it on the weekend.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesdays are the slowest time on the river for boat traffic, Thursday/Friday/Saturday would be okay also, as long as we are already past the barge hole by Saturday. Sunday's seem to be the busiest day.

Sounds like a cool trip, have fun.

Absolutely, positively don't forget to pack mosquito repellent.  Maybe U won't need it but I spent one of the most miserable nights of my life camping on the banks of the Sac,

Of course we were much farther down river, north of Colusa, plan was to jet boat up for 2-3 days or until we couldn't go any farther.  Mechanical issue forced us to head back at the end of the first day, but still had to camp one night, no tent, planned to sleep under the stars.

That was in 1979, after that night and even now to this day, I get a pleasure from killing a mosquito that borders on being perverse.  :smt012

Great trip concept.  Watch for trout on surface if a hatch is coming off.  We were on one a couple years ago, right in front of our beach camp. Total feeding frenzy.  Caddis, I recall.  Enjoy!

When we floated Saturday the rocks were covered in larva, hatch should start any day understand from locals it will be cinnamon colored caddis this time of year.

Sounds like we have 5 or 6 interested already.

Here is one proposal for two day float, how many miles we go depends on if we want to cover more ground or spend more time fishing.

To allow those who have to travel some time to get here, and too coordinate shuttles etc, launch at noon from Anderson River Park

http://www.sacramentoriver.org/access_site.php?extent=14

There is some good SMB fishing at Cow Creek, we could paddle up into the creek, numerous spots for trout fishing along the way

About six mile float, off water around 6:00 overnight at Reading Island/Mouth of Cottonwood Creek

Up early, spend substantial time at Barge Hole/Battle Creek searching for Salmon

Off water at Jelly's Ferry mid-late afternoon

http://www.sacramentoriver.org/access_site.php?extent=13

There are plenty of other launch spots above Anderson and exit spots below Jelly's Ferry where  we can do more miles but require more paddling, less fishing.

There's a whole lota nada out there on that stretch of the river south from your launch.  (Looking at the Google earth images)  going to be a nice paddle at 16+/- miles to your haul out.  If the weather is good the stars should crazy good at night!  Hopefully the bugs won't eat you up too bad.

Looks like we have 5 or 6 people interested, time to start some planning, not sure tournament schedules etc. I am thinking Oct. 16-17 if we go three days include the 18th.

If anyone will be traveling some distance and would want to stay overnight, (tent/RV), there is this place right on river. I will also talk to them about using as launch site. They have plenty of room to park vehicles.

Is the river deep enough there for Hobies?
