I carry a gun. DELETE I carry guns.

Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

I broke down in Bakersfield as I was driving to a race. Badly blown tire on my truck. I grabbed my lantern and my pistol. Pistol in back of pants as I changed the tire. I had someone stop in a beat up old truck ask if I needed help. Cool at first, but not at 3am. I told him I was fine but he continued to push the help thing and kept getting closer. When I finally told him back off or there would be trouble he started coming even closer maybe 15'. I reached back and racked a round, he got the message and took off quick. Not saying he really meant harm, but I did not intend to find out. Almost always travel armed when I am alone now and on the road.

Well, I guess we'll agree to disagree on this one.

Personally, I feel safer without a gun on me. And the facts are on my side here. Having a gun on me would actually up my chances of being shot.

People do stupid things when they are afraid (talking about the potential muggers). Both of you who showed your weapons to scare off sketchy people are VERY lucky they didn't have guns, too. If they had, you may have ended up dead.

NotaSeal's experience is chillingly like one that I experienced, I only had a little .22 but it did the trick.  Now I prefer my .357 cal. pacifier.  Too young to die, too old to get my ass kicked, I carry.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

This SHOULD be all that's needed to answer any of these questions, that it's not is a shame.

You do not need a gun until you need a gun.

Open carry gives easy access to someone if they are protecting themselves against an animal.  I may consider if in the woods and expect problems with animals.

Concealed gives the gun owner the advantage if he is surprised by someone who has evil intent.

I don't take a gun kayak fishing or diving in the ocean.  But there are inland situations I would consider it.

I have been in similar situations like others on this site were I am positive I was being sized up for a robbery.  Yeah I probably should not get gas at 3am in questionable neighborhoods but sometimes that's my only option while traveling or working late. I have also had a couple issues in the forest. They were probably growing pot and they were probably armed but just did not want trouble and I left the area without confrontation. When people size you up for a robbery they usually are not armed and if you were you just gained an advantage over them. The bad guys with guns usually will just brandish it to get what they want.  Not always the case but true more often than not.  Both of these scenarios are tossed out if they are mentally deranged or on drugs.

Keeping a gun in your car not loaded makes no sense.  There are only a few possible incidents that would allow someone the time to get the ammo and load the gun.  Same if it is in a bag or backpack.

With all that being said I have never had to brandish a firearm to stop someone who I felt was approaching with evil intent during one of my outings.  Everyone has to make their own decision on when or if they feel the need requires it. Yes they have to answer for it if it was determined not justified to do so. I feel like more law abiding gun owners does make a difference. Once in awhile a bad one gets in the news and tarnishes the rest of us.

It's like the difference between meat eaters and vegetarians.  It's a choice.  If you don't want to carry don't carry.  I would never try to force my views on anyone.  Just living in reality were being prepared for the worst is a good thing.

Anyone doesn't like guns, carry a rape whistle. That'll work.

You dont know what you dont know. I skin my smoke wagon, you will die. I have been shot before, twice. Once was a shotgun bird hunting here in cali, the other was overseas. I can take care of myself in a fair fight, but if I feel my life is in danger, I will shoot without a hesitation.

Keeping an unloaded gun in your car is fine. Have you ever hit and injured a deer or possum or the like and tried to dispatch it with a tire iron?

I won't roll over without a fight. He had a better chance of being wounded than me. I don't miss! It was dark and the lantern light was in his eyes, not mine. I never drew my weapon, just had it at the ready behind my back.

I waited 2 years for an appointment for my concealed carry permit in Sacramento. When I really thought about it I decided that knowing I had a gun on me would force me to be on my best behavior knowing any altercation could end in death for someone. I figured just being on my best behavior cuts my risk of needing a gun by 90 percent. The other 10 percent of the time I would not be able to carry such as at work or anytime consuming alcohol. I would have to be responsible for the safety of my weapon and all of the hassles that come with it. In the end I cancelled my long awaited appointment. If I lived in a worse area or fished the river or delta It would be different but for me it was the right choice.
