The following site is connected with Goverment Liquidators, these are the folks who run the huge auctions to sell off a lot of military surplus stuff.  They also have a retail site, and I have bought some stuff to replace lost gear in the past.  Much cheaper than normal retail, or your average Mil Surp shop.  Things I can tell you is be knowledgeable of what you are buying, hydrations systems are often without the bladder, but normally a replacement bladder can be had fairly cheaply compared to a new one.  Sleeping bags, the Army got away froma  single sleeping bag years ago and now uses a 3 piece unit, sometimes you can buy all three pieces, sometimes you buy one section only.

MOLLE gear, to my knowledge all of the services are using a form of MOLLE gear. MOLLE is an attachment system, vastly superior to anything I have used in the past, there are different generations of MOLLE, and to the best of my knowledge they all fit each other, just keep in mind, you kind of look dorky if you have mixed patterns.

Definitions:
BDU: Battle Dress Uniform (making a comeback in the Jungle Warfare School) DCU: Desert Camoflage Uniform (used in desert storm and early in Iraq and Afghanistan)
MARPAT: Marine Pattern, a digitial pattern used by the USMC, two patterns a woodland and a desert
Multicam: What is used by the US Army in Afghanistan currently and will be switching to a varient of it in 2015
ACU: Army Combat Uniform, tons of this stuff will be availble, not the best pattern in the world unless you work in a quarry or hunt at night
Tiger Stripe: Airforce digital camoflage based on a pattern used in Vietnam
Navy Digital Uniform:  Not sure what is called, but God help you if you ever fall overboard as no one will ever find you

Both MARPAT and Multi Cam IMHO would be the best as far as surplus goes for hunting clothing in most of California.
