So I have a Mako wetsuit which I love, its still in great shape, but Im having issues with the worn out velcro on the beaver tail. The wetsuit is great, my only complaint has been the velcro, it never really functioned all that well. Anyway, its badly worn and pretty much useless now. Can the better twist lock type of fastener just be sewn in? Or am I stuck with the velcro?

If they can just be sewn in, any suggestions on what fasteners function the best?

The fasteners are held together with screws. You can order them online.
You can also put new velcro. If velcro, "Blown out suit repair" near your house can put it on for you. I personally like the buckles!

Joe, thanks for the info. Whats the scoop on the buckles?

The velcro was always a problem.

My Mako suit, which I also love, came with the plastic buckle type fastener at the beaver. I bet you could order that specific part directly from Mako regardless of whether it was designed for your specific suit or not.

My suit has a peg and slot style fastener that is held in place with screws, not sure if that's what they call a buckle but here's a pic.

The buckle holds tight after repetitive dives and rarely comes undone! Order them bro!

I have the little clip/buckles on my yazbeck...they just screw straight through the wetsuit so imagine you could just put them on?

You can order then clip/buckle set from Austins Diving I think...email or call Doug over there and he will help you out...

I have a couple extra parts that I keep on hand to replace/repair when they break...but don't think I have a full set I could give you...

If you need help with velcro or tail you can hit up HeatWave custom wetsuits over on Mission on the Wetside between Safeway and Ye Olde Watering Hole.

Call/email Mako for advice on how to proceed. I've had a few problems with their gear and they're always helpful with problem solving, regardless of how log it has been since the sale, especially after they've made a change to a product.

To put it in other words, I've had three rubber belts tear out on me in a few months, and they've replaced them with newer designs every time.

Maybe I just need to loose weight..... LEAD weight :)

emailed Mako, he said the construction is much different with the fasteners. so i cant use them. He told me a seamstress could maybe redo the velcro?

or sell me. whole new suit. Thats not an option for me.

ill just take it to my local shop as Joe suggested and see what they can do.

Tote, you can sew?
