I remember when all the metal plating facilities were first required to clean up their heavy metal discharge into the SF Bay. They moved instead to states including Arizona and New Mexico where water pollution is tolerated. Now we still have the two oil refineries in Richmond dumping heavy metals into the bay so I would prefer more regulation and not less in this area.

How anyone who eats fish can dislike laws that control pollution is difficult to understand. Especially if they have children.

This seems political but I want to add something. The real problem is the word regulation. Groups appointed by the state are allowed to make regulation. Freeing the voted in state senators and local Representatives. From any responsibility from stupid regulations. Take Cal Osha perfect example. Regulations should have to be voted on by our state elected representatives and made into law. Ot the regulation goes away. Have any of you seen the new tax on gas jan1 2015. can be up to a dollar a Gallon. That my friend is why tax payers are moving out along with companies.

Hmmm. I am not going to cry about it. I own/operate a high precision CNC machining company in Norcal.  I am gonna get me a piece of that heavily taxpayer subsidized biz out there in the desert and hit Pyramid for cutthroat after delivering my parts. Lemonade outta lemons.

What's the big deal?  That's business in today's day and age.  Think of it as a Nevada stimulus package.  Nevada gives up tax dollars it would otherwise not get.  Tesla gets a free ride, but all the supporting companies that sprout up around it don't.  And all the employees spend back into the local economy.

More so lately, I question running my business in CA. I checked out TX and NV, but living wise, they were not anything like CA. Weather especially.

The reason I'm still here is the Kayak Fishing and the weather. I don't think the thrill in fresh water in another state would be any better than the salt. I hate the snow Texas has nothing there too flat for me. Back to North Idaho. I love the spring through fall. and the fact that there are many lakes. Water there is in better supply. All though it can be problematic. So if taxes and fuel cost get where too much I'll move there. So I do have a plan B but still loving Plan A.

one greenhouse operator I know has a booming new facility in Texas that has been up and running for 5 years.  the California project is yet to begin construction even though it started before the TX project.

speaking as a former business owner, I can say this with certainty.  In California, the government sees business as an enemy. The attitude is that we are being ALLOWED to operate but that can change on a dime with permits, fees and regulation.  They literally act as if you are doing something wrong.  Compared to Nevada, where our business dealings were welcome and there was a "how can we help" attitude.

I understand the objective- Tesla is striving to build a car it can sell for $35,000.00 in 2015. They have to lower the cost of their batteries.

That's the Model 3, actually, due out around 2017 if we're lucky. Next year is the Model X.

TallPaul does have a point.  Sweetheart deals to the politically connected feels just wrong.
We all know it happens but something about making it "official" especially sucks.

It would be awesome if all business had the same regs and tax structure.
