My bass addiction has been replaced by salmon fever.  :smt003

I'm considering doing a drift from Howe ave to Disco on Sunday.
Jig and troll through the popular holes along the way.

Update: Looks like 10/15 would be best for me.

That's in our neck of the woods.  Will there be place for two more.  If work doesn't get in the way, maybe Vic and I could join you.

Looks like 10/15 would be best for me, but I can go on 10/14 if that works best for the group.

Need to arrange to have a car or truck at the Disco take-out.
Will work out the details as we get closer to the weekend.

If it's on the 15th and there is room for one more I am in.

Al, how long would you expect to be on the water?
I am glad to help it what ever way possible with the vehicle shuffle.

Brian,

Great...Then Sunday is the day.

Not sure how long the drift will take. Also depends on how long you want to stay over the deeper holes.
I'll measure the miles and post.

Regardless of the time, it sounds like a great adventure.  I will just plan to cash in the current WAF on this trip, unless I hookup, in which case I could bank some points.

I look foreward to fishing with you again Al.

Is it time to fish yet,
Brian

I think there is plenty of room on the river for all of us. Hope you can join us Sunday.

Well sadly, the WAF account is empty, Dad can't make it, and I apparently have previous plans (says Wifey).  SO... KAYAKJAMES:  I would bring a good sized net, 8-10 lb line on small reels will be ok, and I have been successful with the Mepps #5, but also can try Gibbs Minnows or any of a number of Salmon rigs.  Don't really need much, its pretty pure and simple fishing.

Hi Al,

Do you think there would be much use for an anchor on this float, or is the current comparable to the Miller Park/ Garcia bend area, where it is easy to float down through the holes and then paddle back up river and try again?

Also, I haven't read the regs since last year, but aren't there some rules that only apply upriver of the HWY 5 bridge? Maybe it was just hook regulations, I still need to re-read the regs before re-stocking my gear.

Thanks Al,  looks like we might be able to make it - just tying up a couple of loose ends.  Could you post directions as Vic and I are pretty new to the area. Look forward to fishing with you guys.  Cheers, Eldore'

B3d, an anchor will be a good bet if you want to throw a sardine wrapped flatfish.  We work the Mepps by throwing 10-45 degrees upstream, and I believe it is imperative to work the spinner as slow as possible without getting hung up.  2-skinny mentions Gibbs minnows, I think the only place for those would be right along the water pumphouse just downstream from Howe Ave. it is deep there. As far as the current, I think it is very doable upstream just abpout everywhere on this float. There are two tough places to navigate upstream, Right at the Howe Ave. launch and there is also some fast water just downstream from the H street Bridge.  DO NOT FORGET your night crawlers as this area below H is some outstanding Steelhead Water.  If you havent fished for them this requires an 18-24 leader with a pencil sinker and a half crawler threaded on to a # 4 or #2 hook.  As you drift this you want the weight to bounce the bottom for the majority of the drift, the trick is to discern the steelhead hit from the bottom bounce.  When you feel the initial hit feed him some line with the lowering of the rod wait for the subsequent hit and set the hook for BENDO!  Good Luck Fellas

Thanks for the advise BDaddy.

I will be sure to bring the night crawlers, I have heard good things about Stealhead on the American.  Let's hope our group hit's up with some Salmon and Stealhead.

Good luck to all,
Brian
