Why doesn't USA get land cruiser 70's?

In Central American countries they have long sold mini trucks with crew cabs and short beds and snorkel rigs with gas or diesel engines. These are great offroad rigs and good for fording the streams in these countries but not plush enough for American tastes. Look what was done with the original Hummer that was a fantastic though very slow machine and nothing like the current ones that try to compete with the luxury Land Rover estate wagons.

Fantasitic?????  This thread is turning into comedy central, The hummer was built so poorley with the orginal 6.3 Diesel that when it went commerical they went to the wunder drive train 6.5 turbo, another engine with neither torque nor horsepower, could not get out of your own way vehicle.  Don't leave your hummer sitting for any amount of time, it is the only vehicle that I know of that can wear out ball joint with out ever moving (yes even the civilian models have that issue),  Good help you if you ever need a radiator, because it does triple duty as a radiator, oil cooler, and transmission cooler (take the price of a radiator multiply it several times over, and that is your replacement cost).  Uncomfortable, not if your 5'6" or below. Hot, no amount of AC will ever cool down that vehicle.  Wide, 4 inches wider than the widest Cadilac ever built, and God help you if you over weight, you will never get in it.  Cruise at highway speeds can lead to the replacement of the overpriced airfilter, anything over 60-65 mph causes oil to be forced up into the air intake tract, saturating the air filter.  Ford Water, don't unless if have a surplus Marine Corp version, The Army and civilian ones were not designed for it, and the various breather holes tend to allopw water into places where waer should not be.  I won't get inot the Up Armored ones, as they were even worse, with an electronic transmission that failed in extreme heat.  The only reason the HUMMER was selected was on price, it was by far not the best vehicle, GM made their money back in spare parts.  That thing cannot go the scrap heap fast enough.  No the early FJ's were the bomb, so were a lot of the Jeeps, Internationals and other 4x4's of their era.  THe newer ones do not invoke the confidence for offroading.

But what the hell do I know, I would love to see the old Dodge M37 3/4 ton truck come back, god I loved those things. That is truck for Men!
