Why doesn't USA get land cruiser 70's?

These are my favorite Land Cruisers from the '80's and they are still making them in other countries. Any Toyota people out there? 
Plus they are diesel!

Got me a 40 and a 60 just not running em right now, rather impractical for the city. Diesel is nice and this one looks way better than the FJ (PT  ) Cruiser, 35K not unreasonable but probably not comfy enough for the US market.

I think they should just take the FJ40 body add a back seat and a modern, motor/drivetrain, soundproofing and brakes but that would rum 35K plus and have a limited market....right?

I'd think about a new old FJ. The reason they don't import them is regulations and pay offs. in the government system. BMW had a hard time at first getting their new diesel in this country. I'd like to know the whole story why they can now. I had a friend whom met some engineers from BMW at Button Willow track testing. they need some of my friends track time. He is a swiss Immigrant and got to talking . They were shocked when he under stood what they were saying. So what they had to do to get it in I don't know but suspect a pay off somewhere.

I would be glad to have Sienna to get disel or affordable hybrid package - tired from 16 MPG in city

On another note, Nissan is bringing back the Datsun 510 but updated. And will be released in the states.  Those were the days , retro is back .

It costs money to do the emissions and crash testing for each and every model a company sells in the USA. At 2400 units in total it makes no sense to both with this in the USA. The trend here is toward more fuel efficient vehicles or pretend off road vehicles like the Hummers that people use to go to the grocery store. Most of the utility type vehicles would fail crash testing. For years Jeep got around the laws with this "utility vehicle" loophole for their CJ5 and CJ7 cars. 

Having owned numerous solid front axle 4x4 vehicles I for one much prefer the ride and handling and superior off-road capabilities of the independent front suspension vehicles.

On another note, Nissan is bringing back the Datsun 510 but updated. And will be released in the states.  Those were the days , retro is back .

I had a 1975 FJ40 Landcruiser.  When El Dorado county required smog checks, it wouldn't pass since I had put a Downey carb and exhaust on it.  So I sold to a guy moving to Montana.  It would take me anywhere.

I thought I'd get a bigger rise out of you! They have to be 25 years or older to import to US though.

In Central American countries they have long sold mini trucks with crew cabs and short beds and snorkel rigs with gas or diesel engines. These are great offroad rigs and good for fording the streams in these countries but not plush enough for American tastes. Look what was done with the original Hummer that was a fantastic though very slow machine and nothing like the current ones that try to compete with the luxury Land Rover estate wagons.

Jeremy, let me rephrase myself. I love land rovers but they are out of my price range BUT I bet these land cruisers are too. I always gawk at my customers land rover. It IS BAD ASS!

RFLMAO, never met a land rover owner who didn't go into debt trying to keep them running.  AMC drive trains in some models, fiat drive trains in other ones.  No way in hell I would own one, if I wasn't in a Commonwealth country, maintenace is way to expensive.
