I am a kayak fisherman, I want to catch certain fish from my kayak, just as fly fisherman want to catch fish on the fly. It's just the way I want to do it.

How about a list
What fish have you landed from a kayak?
I'll start

Striped Marlin
Sailfish
Yellowfin tuna
Albacore tuna
Dorado/Mahi/Dolphin fish
Rooster fish
Jack Crevalle
Amber Jack
Yellowtail
White seabass
Thresher shark
Mako shark- OK it was really small
Leopard shark
CA Halibut
Cubera Snapper
a bunch of Mexico Mystery fish
Of course all the other CA regulars and three B's
I know I am forgetting some

It's just more fun in a kayak

My to do list is just as long but here are the top few
Tarpon, must be big
Blue Marlin
Amazon Peacock bass
Amazon Dorado, beautiful fish with huge fangs
Alaskan Halibut
Salmon, go figure
Striped Bass
Giant Ling

Sean, Chris,

I guess I just haven't caught a big enough fish to feel a real difference on a kayak versus a boat as far as fighting the fish or feeling the fish on the rod. I guess I have some inkling of it because I prefer the fly rod whenever possible because you feel the fish more and they have a better chance to beat you. Its the immersive experience on a kayak that 'hooked' me, but I'll have to admit that I haven't experienced what you are talking about...yet. Lingzilla is out there and my biggest to date is 32" 11 lbs. And then again, there are those 30+ pound Stripers in the Forebay.

Yeah I guess I understand somewhat. I just never looked at fishing that way--as an amusement thrill ride. Maybe because most of my adult fishgn was fly fishing for trout which is a mind-game and finesse casting challenge as much as anything. I guess I need to get out and try more types of fishing.

I am just concerned we are sowing the seeds of more and more closures and bans through bad PR by glorifying what some will see as unnecessary abuse for commerical gain and ego. I have to be honest and state that was my first reaction and I am a fisher! But as I said aove--that's my perspective because of how I entered the sport and I need to open my mind a bit perhaps.

For Yellowtail (and I'd love one too) I think you'll have to meetthem halfway even with El Nino and go to at least SLO.
Now, realistically, I do reember teh Albacore being only a couple of miles out a few years ago--so that might happen.
Butthis years El Nino is classifed as weak so I don't know if it will bring them in.

My list:
Black Crappie
Largemouth bass
Striped Bass
Bluegill
Rainbow trout
Brown trout
Lingcod
Rockfish (Blue, Black, Olive, Copper, Gopher, and one fat Vermillion  :smt007)
Jack Smelt
Croaker
Sand Dab

Now I get desperate to lengthen the list...
Sarcastic Fringehead
Octopus
Limpet shell (on rock--hey if it was a fish for Brian it is for me too--though his was much bigger)
Shrimp (snagged)
Anchovy
Sardine
Silverside
Duck (not realy a fish but took a nymph I was fishing on sinking line)

I have my fishing journal at home, but I must be pushing 50 species at this point.  I picked up at least 25 new species in Baja last year alone..

-Striped Bass (Saltwater East Coast, and freshwater West Coast)
-Bluefish
-White perch
-Croaker (East Coast species)
-Spot
-Spotted sea trout
-Largemouth bass
-Smallmouth bass
-Bluegill
-Lake trout
-Lingcod
-Kelp Greenling
-Blue rockfish
-Black rockfish
-Copper rockfish
-Black & Yellow rockfish
-Yellowtail rockfish
-Gopher rockfish
-Vermillion rockfish
-Brown rockfish
-Grass rockfish
-Canary rockfish
-Starry rockfish
-China rockfish
-Cabezon
-Jack smelt
-Pacific mackerel
-Striped surfperch
-Sand dabs
-Starry flounder
-Leopard shark
-Brown smoothhound
-Spiny dogfish
-Spotted sandbass
-Barred sandbass
-Shortfin corvina
-Black skipjack
-Bonito
-Green jack
-Jack crevalle

That's 40 off the top of my head and I probably have another 20 species from Baja I can't remember at the moment.

It probably helps that I'm able to identifiy what I catch and the fact that I will often target smaller less desirable fish just to tick them off my species list.  I keep my species lists somewhat separated into shorefish, powerboat fish, kayakfish and flyfish and my kayak list is by far the largest at this point.
