I'm thinking about going to the Delta this weekend but I've never been there on a kayak. Where's the best place to go for bass where I'm not going to have to paddle more than a mile to get to the good fishing?

Locke Slough is a good area. Free launch but you have to walk pretty far.  Consumnes River Preserve is a good option also.  A little more paddling but worth it.

Google the Cosumnes River Preserve. Double check the hours on when the gates open though.  I've had some luck hitting both the Cosumnes and the Moke.  It's also a free launch just bring a cart (and a lock if you can't store the cart on your yak.

Frank's tract is pretty good.speed limit so its safer for kayaks
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

+1 on the consumers river preserve, they will even loan you wheels when it's attended for the long walk to the launch. "The Meadows" near twin cities road can be hit or miss, sometimes loaded with wake boarders sometimes empty, early is obviously quieter, I just launch under the bridge on twin cities road west of galt , steep slope to the bank but doable.

Hogback Slough.....
I've found the bass there are larger than the meadows bass.

Big boat launch. Costs 8 bucks.
If it's windy, don't go. Incoming tide to high is best. Go out the launch and hit the tullys to the left.
Then cross and hit the submerged wood.
And stripers run thru there also.

Wish I could join you, been fishing two days straight. Need to spend some time with my lady tomorrow. Next time?

Where is hog back slough?   Or are you referring to Steamboat slough and launch from hogback?

Matt,

Any tip for stripers at Steamboat Slough?   Waiting for the fall striper run to try it there.

Swimbaits, are my go to "search" lure. Find a school and then go bigger presentation.
PMINNOW makes some awesome lures, and for Topwater , well, DWB makes the best producer I've seen. Locally made, by hand, by a great guy...
This fall I'm going to try to get more on the fly, will be practicing at the port. Down there flies are deadly and the stripers pick em off. I've read it and seen it but not done that yet

The spot I've found with most stripers there is the flats, incoming they push up those baitfish and are caught in 4 feet  or less.
Right now there are way more stripers being caught on the San Jouquin side, I gotta figure out how to launch and kayak that area. The big schools are apparently that way.
