I went into wind toys... They saw a new one and promptly backordered 40 of the old ones, and only 3 new ones. They didn't like some of the changes. Especially the vantage seat which they say is a recall nightmare waiting to happen.

That's interesting. However, recumbent bike manufacturers have been making "sling mesh" seats like that for years, if not decades. Similar seats have also been in kayaks for a while, including Hobie products. Personally, I'd be very surprised if Hobie doesn't get it right.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

He was saying something about the plastic that connects the chair to the kayak. I don't know enough about it but they build a bunch and sold me mine, so I take their advice seriously.

I personally don't like sitting in a pool of water. The new seat will prevent this.  Hobie has several years experience on this seat with the PA line.  I wonder why Wind Toys would think this way?

I was wondering how they hold the 2 black blocks on each side of the kayak for the front of the seat. Maybe plastic weld? Super glue? I don't know but I'm sure it wouldn't be that much of a problem for a fix if their was one.

It's a totally new seat, the PA seat frame is metal, the new seats are plastic framed. However, I'm sure Hobie did their homework on the new seats. If they saw it in person and made that kind of decision, maybe they have a legitimate reason.

Hobie usually makes good engineering decisions but not always as was the case from changing out solid aluminum drive arms to hollow ones. The owner of Wind Toys has a long and varied background in watercraft so his opinion, if it is his opinion, on the new seat is worthy of consideration.

Anyone have specifics as to why the Windtoys guy thinks the seat will result in recall problems?
