First time out kayaking fishing on my birthday last week. Caught (and released) an undersized lingcod near dusk on the 6th, in the kelp beds on the south side of the cove, and went out again on the morning of the 8th. Caught a gopher rockfish & a keeper ling near the little island to the south and a black rockfish in one of the rock gardens just north of the sea caves. I fished while my buddy did some free diving. Had a great time & am eager to go out again a.s.a.p.

The days were mellow & Van Damme felt like a great place for a beginner to get started. Any suggestions on where I should go next? I live in Richmond (East Bay), and am thinking I'll head south this week sometime. Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel? I'd welcome recommendations (or directions to old threads) on put-ins & prospects at any of these places.

Thanks much,

Jeff
