I went to first St in Benicia to talk to the people on the rocks :smt002 and their report is that the rumor is that 3 King and 2 Silver were reel in from the State Park today, of course the Silver were released.
and they also noticed a couple sea lions feeding on a couple of salmon at the cove in First St. earlier today, they have been there since early morning till 5 PM with no luck.

soon they will be here....

The "Ear to Ear" bank fishing is coming to Benicia soon!  As much as I want to get a Salmon, there's no way I would join that madness!  Way too many people in a very small space.

Yeah its elbow to elbow but most of the people that ive met the few times ive been out there are very nice.last time I was there for the run the lady fishing next to me caught a nice one next to me.she was telling me how they've been doing really good and ask how many have I caught so far I said none.then she turns to me and said I can have the one she just caught.I said are you sure she said yeah were tired of eating salmon.with some hesitation I said thankyou and accepted her gift
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Is this a problem when fishing from a kayak?

Pretty difficult to get in the area in a kayak without getting in the way of the bankies.

Not meant to be a thread jack, but I have a buddy that's trying to get me to come out to Benicia SP on Tuesday to join the shore masses and go after some chrome. I've never done the Benicia shoreline thing and have heard that its a difficult, uncomfortable place to fish in the crowd there. Is it really worth it to go this week or is it still too early ? If so, any tips ? Like I said, its completely foreign to me. Any to or suggestions at welcome.

I was out there in the yak today, the sealion by the cove was not tearing up salmon. I was about 30 yards from him and his multiple meals. Not salmon. Counted 40 people at the park. But action is still extreanly slow. A few were caught yesterday...

most of the people there was throwing spinners. Using 7-8' rods as far as time wise I dont fish it enough to know if its too early or late.most of the fish I saw that was being caught was by the bathroom and a bout twenty yards to the right of it towards the inner cove.10-15# mono 20# leader.in this area stripers hit spinners also.the ones I was using was from the benicia bait and was fairly heavy. 5/8-1oz

Everyone basically used Vee zee spinners out there. They say yellow and green is a hot color. You will get more casting distance out of them. I use a 7 1/2' 8-17 lb medium rod with a fast action. Braid straight to leader material.

Where is the launch in that area?

There's a free public launch on 9th street. But for us kayakers, we can launch at the end of First street if we want to fish that area.

you can launch on 9Th St ramp and troll around the point at the State Park, but don't get close to the fishermen on the banks, they will toss their lures at you.
or you can launch at the end of First St on the roundabout there is a small area to launch and bring an anchor and toss the lures in the cove or close to the pier.
Wait a few weeks, the bite is too slow right now.
