<Begin RANT>
after my ankle surgery, I trained on the bike all winter. Was smack dab on track-  fit and crushing it on my local rides and climbs.  I hadn't seen power like this since 2009!  RAGBRAI was the first target (just for fun) in the last week of July, Tam Double first weekend of Aug, Eastside Fondo Sept, then i'd be lean and mean for Albie season.

Well, first day of RAGBRAI i got tangled with a rider who drifted over to get into a sprinkler cooling the riders (Note: if you close your fucking eyes and look left on a bike you'll ride hard left bitch!). Down we went. I landed shoulder and hip first, with a 170+ lbs of Iowan pork sow landing on me. She got up, didn't say a word and rode away.

I ended up riding into the finish and straight to the med tent, then took a ride to the ER-- concussion, pulled pec, pulled groin, pulled glute, separated clavical, and a few days later (after the pain of the "pulled groin" wouldn't abate) i would learn - broken pelvis.

My plans are all shot.

On crutches again for at least 8 weeks. Maybe i'll get lucky enough to fish sturgeon this winter.

Feeling pretty low now, can't do shit for myself yet...shoulder means i can't go far on the crutches, pelvis means i can't sleep without meds- and i hate being hazy like that. Can't sit, can't lie down, can't stand for long...fuck me!

I know its only a few weeks, i've been through this before, but right now all i see is a wasted vacation and a blown summer....

</END RANT>

Really sorry to hear that Steve. After a previous mishap and a  recovery and a long slog back to first rate shape and then this happens. No advice but believe me I feel for you.

That blows, buddy.   :smt009

You're a strong guy and very intense.  Time to turn that energy toward things you CAN do right now.

Keep kicking life's ass, Steve.  It's ALL relative, and it don't last forever.

It'd be cool to salmon fish with you at the Cove before the closer in November.  Keep in touch - maybe I'll get one of those big tandem AI's...

Sometimes life just gets shitty.
Remind yourself that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
You've proven it once already.
Hope this helps:
