Some nets are not round, will it make a difference, if the net is 18 inches one way, but not the other way?

18" opening should be fine.

As for measuring devices, I can't find anything in the regs requiring any measuring device be in possession when fishing for finfish, let alone a particular type of measuring device.

Of course, crustacean a and mollusk fishing requires fixed measuring devices. Just not finfish apparently.

Twice while ab diving, but none while spearfishing or fishing from shore or boat.  Very polite and not intrusive at all.  The way it should be.

Nah.  Unless you insist.

Or if a poll indicates an inordinate number of our asian brethren are being checked,t then, Ya, along with a letter to DFG.

I've been checked twice this year outta Santa Cruz.  Once around the salmon opener, while I was trying out trolling for Halibut.  They rolled up, asked what I was fishing for.  Said halibut! They asked if I had caught any RF, told them how I just landed my first vermillion in years, and it of course had to be out of season!  They chuckled and left.  The other time was on the RF opener, and they just swung by and asked if I had caught anything good.  Nope, just some browns, underling, yada yada...  They said have a good day and left!  Maybe they start off just by gauging your reaction to them, because I've always been pleasant and they have always been pleasant back to me.  But if at any time they wanted me to start opening up hatches and checking my hooks and rigs and I dont feel safe about it, I will likely insist that we return to port for that inspection to be done.

I have had my fish checked a few times, they have asked me how the fishing was or if I was fishing barbless, I had them come aboard at deep reef to check our fish but have never been asked for my license. Probably will now though :smt011

Been out twice this year on the yak and was checked once around SC. Guy was really nice but I'm kinda like Jim in that I go out of my way to make things easy for them. Always have my license ready and ask if they would like to check my hull. I've never had a bad experience with the dfg and I've been checked bunches of times.

they boarded a big cabin cruiser old school wood trim ,with three old guys ,they were not from this area and I think they said they came down from S.C.....anyways they had floated south of the bell buoy a few hundred feet towards pt joe but in the mpla.
I was fishing at the bell buoy east side, when I saw the two dfg in their zodiac coming out from the bay jumping swells....b-line for the old guys who were by now jigging up rock fish -one dfg got on their boat and made them reel up.
Later after the dfg left the old guys were fishing in the right area and when I asked them ,told me,that the dfg had given them a talk and warning-they said they caught a canary as they reeled up with the guy on deck...two guys in a PB another 1/4 mile into the mpla got the next stop and they later told me they got a ticket-when I asked they said they were not sure how much the ticket would be...and told me...they"were barley over the line" and should have been warned-I did not tell em about the old guys....

I think the reason FishAddict is getting checked so much is that he's not PC enough :smt005  They're now called the Department of Fish and Wildlife, DFW, and the wardens aren't wardens anymore.  They're Wildlife Officers.

They're sensitive.

It seems like they somehow find me every other weekend in Monterey  :smt012 I'd only been approached by one DFG officer in my entire life before I moved to California.

I've been checked out probably 4 times this year on the water.  No big deal, they just want me to hold up the license so they can see that it's current.  I think they recognize me now because they just cruise by and wave.

On shore I've been checked a couple times but they were always pretty cool.  I've heard the horror stories but have not experienced anything unreasonable.

I'm glad they are out there doing their job.

only been checked on the coast a few times in the last 7 years, and always by the cute short warden on the sonoma coast, think she digs me :smt044 :smt044 :smt044, and i am a sucker for a woman with a gun :smt004, been checked on the russian a hanful of times in the last 12 years, all encounters have been good experiences, but i am never doing anything to warrant otherwise, always friendly with them and have my stuff in order and ready for them, cameron
