hi guys,
just bought a rib 310, hard bottom inflatable from west marine to take out wife and friends. I need to get a small trailer for this boat. Anyone know of somewhere or someone that has used/new ones available. Been looking at cabbelas/cl website's small trailer,  would prefer to buy a working used one. any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ken

If you are just looking for something inexpensive, check Harbor Freight; with coupon it comes out to ~$340.  It's painted steel.  West Marine does carry/sell a galvanized trailer (or at least they did when I worked for them).

Google 'Harbor Freight Coupon'.  There is ALWAYS a 20% off one floating around & sometimes a 25% one out there.  I use them in the store when I go.  I generally look one up on the internet while I am standing in line.

Harbor Freight Trailer is $299 the last I checked. It's length is about 8' x 6'. It also fordable.

I was making reference to their boat trailer.  They do make their typical 'flat bed' trailers as well that are foldable & you can create your own bunks as needed (and it will cost a lot less).  I just happen to have their current flyer:

  P/N 90154/62170 $269.99 4x8, folding, 12" wheels, flat bed
  P/N 5002 $429.99 Boat trailer, 50" x 154", 8" wheels

Add a 20% or 25% coupon off these prices above for a reasonable trailer.  I have one of their 4x8 basics that I carry my 9' Tug Boat on.

I'm on my second Harbor Freight trailer with 12 inch wheels.  I extended the tongue to hold longer kayaks (IA) and make backing easier.  My first one Baja tough, survived the back roads or what passes for roads.  But alas, did not survive being rear ended by a truck while stopped at a red light.  The good news, the trailer was empty at the time and it did an excellent job of absorbing the impact.  Totaled the trailer but only minor bend of bumper at ball.

The Harbor Freight and similar trailers are not designed to go into the water, especially salt water. One could add a set of Bearing Buddy's to them but I would still not trust them to hold up over time. Not much worse than losing a trailer wheel at speed on the freeway while transporting a boat or boats.

If the inflatable is light enough to hand launch I would do this and not use the boat trailer and keep it out of the saltwater. Even boat trailers need more frequent maintenance if immersed. It is even worse with trailers with small tires as the wheels spin 3x faster and the bearings get a lot hotter. Stick the hot wheels into the cold ocean water and a vacuum is created that sucks in the saltwater. Taking along a grease gun an filling the Bear Buddy's back to 100% at the boat launch area helps a good deal.

If I was transporting both kayaks and a small inflatable I would use a kayak rack with its cross bars to transport the inflatable upside down.

I sure would like to see a picture of that 9' tug boat!
