Bahahaha almost pissed myself. Apparently they called the news to give an interview about me.

"Stephanie Tackett says she’s afraid to go back to Collinsville or even to work after she says they found a neighbor with a gun on the property where their home once stood."

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/video/10342199-family-feels-threatened-after-neighbors-blame-them-for-fire-that-burned-half-of-town/

???

I'm the "gun toting neighbor that is threatening them"

So they say.

So sorry to hear about this, do you yourself a favor, keep the firearms out of sight, don't invite trouble.  PTSD is a bitch to deal with, I got off the back of a Box because I just couldn't deal with it any longer.  Anger and PTSD, that makes it even worse, and we may not make the best decisions. If there is anything you need don't hesitate to ask.

If anybody knows the law very well I'd like to know the following.

I know something about transporting firearms and having the guns and ammo separate. Only thing I have the locks the glove box and my okay to have the guns in the back And Amo locked in the glove box?

If I buy a lock box that ties to under the seat and I have the handgun loaded and locked in it while driving, is that ok?

I dont know the answer to your question, but I do know that after my wife said she was leaving and I bugged out.   had my firearms in safekeeping away from me for 6 months and that was a good thing....  Some of that time was involuntary, some of it they were with a friend.

A loaded gun in a car will get you in hot water, no matter how it is stored. I would think having both gun and ammo inside the car, trunk excluded) would get you in a world of trouble too.

sorry for your loss, and the whole F'd up deal.

Here is a link to the DOJ website regarding transporting firearms.  I believe they are the governing authority on that topic.

"California Penal Code section 25610 does not prevent a citizen of the United States over 18 years of age who is not lawfully prohibited from firearm possession, and who resides or is temporarily in California, from transporting by motor vehicle any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person provided the firearm is unloaded and stored in a locked container.

The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. For more information, refer to California Penal Code sections 16850."

The spirit of the law is to prevent someone from using a firearm in a fit of rage (cut off by a car, etc.) by limiting it's access.  It also protects citizens and law enforcement from making poor decisions during a traffic stops, whether intentional or unintentional.   I think a lot depends on where you are.  For example, Shasta County is very pro-gun.  BUT, what's ok in Shasta County will not always be ok in say, Solano County.  If you can prove the gun is not accessible AND unloaded you should be ok.  However, look at it through a cop's eyes.  If you think for even a minute it has a chance of making them nervous, you're doing something wrong.

I have a CCW so I'm good there but they are hard to come by in most of the state.

a legal lockable container is the pistol cases or rugs that have a zipper. The end of the zipper has a hole and the case has a ring. Get a small cheap lock and its legal. Keep the ammo out of the case and in a different spot not in arms reach and its good to go.

I was up in Mt Shasta area last week and I was surprised to see that fireworks were legal to sell in both Siskiyou and Butte counties last week. How stupid can county supervisors be to let this go on. The sales tax revenues cannot be worth the risk of fires and forest, wildlife, and property damage in the area.

I lost my house in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and wished it had burned down instead. I had earthquake insurance with State Farm and they screwed us. All our attorney's clients had State Farm policies. It took me over a year to get a cent from State Farm.

It does pay to check you home insurance and verify that the coverage is adequate for the cost to rebuild. In Monterey county the cost is $250-$300 a square foot but the agent was going to write a policy that translated to less than $200 a square foot of coverage. The difference would come out of my pocket.

If someone's actions resulted in damage to my house I would file a lawsuit against them immediately. Whatever they owned I would take down to the last TV set and home appliance. I would strip them bare.

We have the same problem with fireworks here in Pacifica...it's completely insane.  Not just the risk from legal fireworks, we have crazy illegal fireworks.  No exaggeration, it's like a professional fireworks display is being put on all over the city...with sparks raining down dry grass hills.

The reason it never ends?  Because the local community organizations all get a cut from the fireworks sales and the city doesn't have the political power to make it stop.  When someone gets badly burned, or a neighborhood gets destroyed is when it will finally stop.
