NCKA, in conjuction with the Paddlefest organizers and prize sponsors, are hosting the event to showcase the growing sport of kayak fishing at the 2006 Bay Area Paddlefest.  Many Paddlefest participants will be interested in learning about kayak fishing, so let us all be helpful ambassadors of NCKA and our sport!

$10 from every Paddlefest Derby entry fee will be donated to the Chef Stefano Cancer Fund.



Official Rules for 2006 Bay Area Paddlefest Kayak Fishing Derby

1.   The tournament is open to kayaks, paddleboards or any other human powered vessels only. No motors allowed.
2.   This tournament will include all legal fish in the San Francisco bay, including sharks.  All rays and skates are excluded.
3.    At this time of the year, the more common sportfish in this part of SF Bay include stripers, halibut, sharks, and some sturgeon.
4.   The biggest fish will be measure by length not weight.  Only one fish per angler may be enter for the derby.   In the event of a tie, we will flip a coin.
5.   Catch and release of fish is not mandatory, but encouraged.  The official tournament boat (courtesy of Art Garcia) will be on the water to measure and photograph derby fish.  The power boat can be hailed on VHF radio channel 69 or cell phone number 510.919.xxxx (Chuck's Cell)
6.   All anglers must have a valid California Fishing License including a Bay Stamp, must abide by all CA DFG fishing regulations,, and must carry a Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Devices.
7.   All fish must be landed by rod and reel and unassisted by other anglers or boaters.
8.   The photos taken by the producers of this event will be the sole property of NCKA and may be used to promote future events or sponsors.
9.   The derby will be held "rain or shine", however, in the event of fog or other unsafe weather, the tournament start may be delayed until it is safe to start.
10.   All contestants must check in at the NCKA booth to sign a waiver and get a Paddlfest wrist band before fishing. No launching before 6:00am.
11.   All fish entries must be measure at the NCKA booth or by the tournament boat no later than 11:30am

1st Prize -  A guided Baja Mexico Kayak Fishing Vacation for two peoplesponsored by Rancho Leonero Resort & Kayakfishing.com
2nd & 3rd Prizes TBD

Derby Raffle Prizes

All contestants will be automatically entered into a raffle at the NCKA booth immediately following the awards for the derby winners.  This is separate from the Paddlefest raffle at the end of the day.  You do not have to be present to win the derby raffle, but you do have to present at the end of the day for the Paddlefest raffle.

Though I wont be at this event I really don't like the idea of flipping a coin for tie breakers. I feel the first angler who brings their fish in to be measured  should be considered first for that position.

just my thought of fairness.

I'm in I plan to fish dead and live bait plan to bring shiners smelt ghost shrimp. for dead I will have anchovies and squid
 
what I would like to know how Manny fish can you enter lets say I get 4 large sharks and weigh the first one but get a bigger one
that I want to enter to update my entry I mean it is catch and release is this allowed ?

when I win this who wants to go with me on my trip Mexico I ask my girlfriend and she did not like the idea
