We where up at Eagle lake last year in the middle of the month of November, the fishing was great but it was real cooled. It was the first time I had to chip the ice off the eyes of my pole so I could cast, would I do it over again, in a hart beat. The photo is my frozen Mercury, this year it will be my frozen kayak.

I have never been to Eagle lake but would be totally down for a trip there.
Cold weather is no biggie. Here's proof:

I'm about  an hour and 45 min form the lake and have 5 acres  so if anyone wants to use my place as a stageing (day/night before) area it take some of the bite out of the drive. we are at about 3300 elevation so the camping would not be as cold. everyones welcome and we could put mooch ffar enough away so we could sleep. Tote,
Fishing in cold weather is no problem. I wore neoprene fingerless gloves becuse wee wre srtipping flies and had to get our hands wet. We had howling wind and white out flurries one day--I jsut had to pause about every 20 minutes or so and wrings otu the gloves to warm the fingers up  :smt003

I just wanted to warn those camping that it would be cold and potentially windy even stormy. I have Winter camped before when back-country ski touring--its doable and winter car camping would be comparatively luxurious. Still, a warm cabin and showers cannot be beat after a long day of cold fishing.

That's one crazy picture...I spent enough time in the elements while I was a Marine to know that I don't like it when it hurts to touch things.  :smt009

Hopefully soon I'll have my yak and be able to join you guys/gals on some of these trips but if this is the environment we'll be in I'll volunteer to watch the fire for all of you.  :smt003

You never know what the weather will do up there. Some years we don't get snow until December. You can bet that it will be chilly at night. The earlier part of the month is more predictable.

I am planning on being up at the property on the November 4/5 and 11/12 weekends.

As for camping facilities, I have two pop-up campers and a 4 person tent set up. There is tons of room for tents, campers, whatever.

I have propane heaters for each of the campers and the tent. There is a hot shower and an outhouse. There is a nice fire pit, BBQ, tables, pots and pans, stoves and just about everything else you might need. It is remote but it isn't quite tough camping. Next year the kitchen/dining cabin and the two bunk houses will be finished but I just ran out of time this year.

Also, for those of you who shoot, there is plenty of room for target practice and quail season is open till the end of the year.

The Gal at our little store here in Forst Ranch goes up to E.L. pretty often. Last Tues her and boyfriend caught more then 20 fish in a hour. All bruisers, tossing nymphs, fish full of nymphs, She said her right side was sore from hauling in fish on her float tube. BigDog? hope the last holiday weekend went well? I have really  wanted to make a trip up. Hopefully soon.

BigFoot, the Labor Day weekend was not as productive as I was hoping for. Dove season opened the same weekend and lots of my "maybeys" opted for chasing birds. I did have some people show up and we got some project work done. Plus some target practice, horse riding, etc. Along with lots of food and drink like abalone, smoked pheasant, venison, single malt scotch, fine wine and much more. No matter how much we work up there, we never seem to be able to lose any weight....lol

Just so everyone knows, Lake Pillsbury has Eagle Lake trout. So, if you don't want to drive all the way to Eagle Lake, you can always hit Lake Pillsbury, which is accessed through either Lake County or Mendocino County.

CHEERS!

That frosty yak gives me the chills!  I remember duck hunting near there last year, and having one frozen, grumpy lab at my side.  The place we rent in Spalding sleeps 10, and goes for $125 a night.  I'm all up for camping, but as Marmot said, a hot shower and fireplace sure hit the spot when it's 10° outside!

Unfortuanately, I have to opt out on this trip, as Nov. 12th is D-Day (delivery of my wife and I's first kid).  She's already told me I go on the leash October23rd, putting me within an hours drive of Redding.  Best of luck to you guys though, and don't forget your duck guns!

-Ben

Well, my plans have changed a bit. I just scheduled a pig hunt for the weekend of 11/12. So, the weekend of 4/5 is my only scheduled weekend up at the property. After that, it will be weather dependent.

Frankfishing, your 24' is fine. We take 18 wheelers in and out of the place so your camper should not have a problem.
