News article here says that if you wash your chickens, it would help spread diseases. Was wondering if the same is true when it comes to handling your fishes.

I would think not; unless your fish has Samonella or some other bacterial infection.  The issue with washing chicken is the spreading of bacteria that is present in much of the processed chicken.  Cooking the chicken thoroughly, kills the bacteria.

I have no problem with the fish that I catch myself. But store bought fish is another matter, like Salmon for example, and you don't cook them when used as sashimi or sushi.  These fish can sometimes sit there on the shelf for some time, but of course they follow temperature settings guidelines set out by FDA and other related agencies.

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.

I was told that you should not wash fish very much because it ruins the taste.  Fresh water pulls all the "fish juice" salts and minerals out of the flesh.  If you're gonna cook it anyways, you don't need to decontaminate it.  If you're gonna sushi it, I think you're supposed to freeze it for a week or so.

If you wash it, do it right before you cook it. Don't do it when you filet them, you'd be marinating them in water.
