Though keeping your scent off is important for many types of trapping and hunting, I don't think you need to worry about it on mole or gopher traps.  I handle and set mine with my bare hands and have never noticed a difference with traps which don't have my scent on them.  I went to a house 2 days ago and got 3 moles the first night and 4 the second ( more lucky than usual ).  I trapped my last gopher in less than 4 hours.  All these traps were set with bare dirty hands.

If it's moles, you have my deepest sympathy :smt010

I fought them for ten years at my parents home and never really won. They live in the country and have about 2 acres of yard. I couldn't be there 24/7 or I would have done the chair/beer/gun thing.

I tried traps, gum, gas, floods, fire, explosives, and cats. I slowed them down at times but never won. I suspect most died of old age.

If Alcim11 charges $1000/mole, that's a bargain. Once he clears them out, my advice is to cover your yard in 4" of concrete to help prevent re-infestation. Good luck!

Once you clear them out, a properly placed 1/2" x 36 " stainless hardware cloth barrier will keep them out of your yard.   PM me for details.

the hardware cloth is probably a better option than concrete. I was just giving into my emotions. :smt001

Thanks Gino.  Bob (Alcim11) is going to call me Monday.  If it's not something that makes sense for him to handle, I'll let you know.

A few years ago I did battle with something tunneling in the tiny yard space I had while in a mobil home park.  I used propane from a hand held propane torch.  I simply opened a finger size hole into its tunnel then shoved the torch nozzle into the tunnel sealed the hole then opened the gas valve.  I think I let the gas go for 5-7 minutes? (Can't recall exact time now) after that, I collapsed a short section of the tunnel, that repeatedly it would reopen after smashing, and after a few days the tunnel was not reopened.  So, either I killed whatever it was or gassed it out to never return.  I like to think it's bones are still in the little yard!
Was this approach safe?  Probably not, but I don't smoke, so a flame source was not present.  My intent was to replace it's oxygen and choke it till dead, not to blow it out of the ground.
Did it work?  One way or another, the little bastard stopped tunneling.

Nice work!  Mine seems to have gone dormant for a few days.  I can't trap him if he won't come up.  How did you get him?

Nice work!  Mine seems to have gone dormant for a few days.  I can't trap him if he won't come up.  How did you get him?

I take my garden hose and have the water flow at a little less than medium pressure.
Place the head of the hose right on top of the dirt mound and circle it around a bit.
Exposes the hole immediately with no dirt falling in to plug it up. I let the water run into the hole. Waters part of the lawn and trees with almost zero evaporation.  :smt002
This guy was drowning and came up where the water was flowing.
I saw the ground moving so I stomped it, then put the hose there and he was still moving about.
I scooped him onto the lawn and I guess my 190 lb heel was too much for him to handle.
Looking at those two front excavators it has it's no wonder they can move so much earth.
I have 2 traps on the other side of the yard. I'll let you know if those work.

Do you know this for fact??????  :smt044
Here's a short vid for you Martin. I open the holes this way then add pellets down the hole.
If they fill the holes back up with dirt I know they had a chance to sample some of the fine cuisine I provided.
