Heading to Doran without the kayaks for a few days of camping next week but still wouldn't mind putting something fishy on the BBQ while we're there. I'll throw some grubs in the surf for perch and probably give the jetty a try as well. I've caught plenty of leopard sharks and rays off the jetty before but have never really tried for/had much success for anything else.

Any tips or suggestions are much appreciated.

Crab snare n anchovies for dungies, won't catch much unless your on the tip of the jetty. Could always poke fish for monkey face eels, on the muddy side of doran low tide if your feeling like getting dirty there's  plenty of geoducks.

last time I was there about a month ago, used plastics ;sand worm in camo and penny colors scented with grass shrimp worked well...good luck
Awesome - I already have some GULP sandworms in the tackle box. Jigging the plastics off of the jetty for rockfish/greenlings or casting the plastics in the surf for perch ?

Here's a 24" ling from the Doran jetty I caught May 16th. I use big tubes 1oz on 20lb floro leader to 65lb braid & Powell flippen stick. These other lings came from the big jetty the past three months on the same bait.

The blacks will move in this time of year too. Throw a fluke jr on a 1/8oz scrounger head on 10lb test spinning rod. You have to fish low light conditions though for them and the end of both Jetties are best. Good luck.

Cool!  Which Powell Endurance rod did you use?

You definitely want tide movement. Doesn't matter which way it's going IMHO. I'm basically freshwater bass fishing bouncing the bait just above the rocks. A lot of bites are on the fall. I'm also working the entire 1/3 (end) of the jetty.

Another good technique, one I've not done in several years there, is to jig up some live shiners. You used to be able to get some around the launch ramp/dock but you could only do it when the boat lot was empty. I'm sure you could take a 5 gallon bucket and sabiki rig over to the Tides or Lucas wharf and get a dozen pretty quick. You would then increase you chance of a Hali too.

I'm using the 805 flipping stick with my drag locked down. If you let them get in the rocks it's over.

WOW ..very nice never tried for lings there ...thanks for the info.... whats your technique for them if you don't mind me asking ..are you casting out or working in front of the rocks?  tides ? Thanks VK

Wow is right ! I've seen small lings and blues/blacks come off the jetty before but those are some beauties. I assume that you keep the plastics pretty tight to the rock rather than casting out too far ? Damn,  I'm really excited to give it a go now ! Thanks a lot for the tips.

My friend and I caught 42 lings from the Doran jetty over a 3 day period.

The biggest ling I've ever hooked in my life was from the end of the Doran jetty.

There's lots of info here and on pierfishing.com.

Thanks, Rockhopper ! I was crossing my fingers that you'd chime in on the topic. I'll comb through the reports before I head out. Thanks again !

You guy generally have better luck on the westernmost jetty attached to Campbell's Cove, right ?

I honestly haven't fished either jetty in years, so I don't know how either are producing.

I used to like fishing the outer jetty better, but used to catch way more fish from the Doran jetty.

The outer jetty definitely receives less fishing pressure since it's harder to access.
