thanks for the post. This was cracking me up, "heading out with crab traps, wearing T-shirts and shorts like it was Hawaii." Haha.

How many folks carry bilge pumps? I'd say that and a vhf have been the most useful for me re: safety gear.

Great write up but THIS was not addressed in your list " am crazy for going out in HMB solo ". I would strongly suggest you go out with a buddy, even calm days can take a turn for the worse quickly. We have a great hook-up board here and need to use to when we can.
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.
