Quick update guys,
I have not forgotten about you, just been busy trying to make this work. The original shop that I have been talking to came back with a quote that is completely unreasonable. So I have opened conversations with a few other machine shops in an attempt to create a better product at a competitive price. When I get a shop locked in I will let you all know.
In the mean time, I have a list of everyone who has expressed interest for far. If you have not spoken up and wish to be a part of the group buy feel free to post here and I will include you on the list.
Thanks for the support
~Bill

These are going to be great. Are you getting quotes just locally? Are these going to be hand made or CAD/DXF file for CNC?

The original shop that I have been talking to came back with a quote that is completely unreasonable.

Yeah, been there! When the smell money, they want a piece of the action; so they boost there setup fee to program the machine and the price per part.

Another option for you, if you know how to program a cnc (they also have classes too), is this:

I was just wondering if you're willing to say what the "completely unreasonable" quote was.

I'd previously talked to my gunsmith neighbor about making a pair of crank arms for me, and he said he'd do it for $50, not including the cost of the metal. He claimed that was way, way below the cost any shop would charge. As it happened, he was missing a couple of bits, so I did it myself. In any case, it seems to me that precision metal work of this sort is going to be quite costly (lots of labor, expensive tools, wear and tear on expensive bits, etc.), although I hope I'm wrong about that...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

They wanted four times what the original estimate was. This is not complicated or precision machining. I made my prototypes with a drill press and hand tap.

I'm probably gonna do the same thing if these are not ready before Albion....
