At the Paddlefest Scallen recounted how his rod leash cut off one of his rod holders and was hyperextended during one landing.  Don't recall the details except that he was concerned that it was really stretched out.  But I was wondering, if a rod got hung up, and extended the tubing, could your rod end up flying back at you with a lot of force?

PS: Mol, I'm sure the instruments are re-used--hence the need for sterilizers.  They are very expenspensive! But needle holders and hemostats need to be precisely aligned.  Once the working edge is sufficiently worn, the curved needles will rotate as you try to pass it through tissue or the blood vessel you are trying to clamp will slip out.  Not something you want happening in the middle of a bleeding chest wound.  You'll never find the retracted vessel again.

Marmite:

That was actually my paddle leash on a landing in big Sur.  should have uclipped it before attempting  the landing.  It got caught on my rod-holder and broke the whole rod holder off, with my rod in it!

almost lost a good rig.
