Does anyone have ideas for easily available material to make BIG Clouser minnows? I saw an internet video by someone who makes 8-10 inch Clousers out of yack hair. Yack hair seems to be about ask common as yacks, so I'm looking for a substitute. Lawn chair webbing is great, but unraveling long strands is very time consuming. What else is there?

I found an old fiber optic lamp and tore off the strands. In my dream I find a waterproof led light and rig something. What about all those brooms made out of different colored bristles?

I would check out TheFlyFishers.com

They have yak streamer hair in several colors for $6.95 a bundle.

Personally, I would recommend just tying up some flashtail clousers on  2/0 hooks with large lead eyes. Casting an 8 inch long streamer is a lot of work on the fly rod. Kings pretty much each anything that swims past, big or small.

If you do end up tying up some of these monsters, I would love to see pics.

I just found an article about really big flies. It brings up a lot of topics that I had not considered. Definitely worth reading.

+1, I know alot of old school striper guys and they love that stuff. Pretty funny when someone at the casting pond shows up with a new colored wig, you would think it was made of gold.

I've been tying some large fly's for bottom fishing for lings/blacks and I use not only synthetics but also Synthetic yak hair with circle hooks for better hook-ups.
I look at several articles by saltwater fly fishermen in Oregon. Haven't tried them as year but soon.
I also tie different colors and fly sizes. Best Of luck!

I tie some on circle hooks, not for the hookup but because it doesn't stick the kelp as much as a J-hook. Circle hook I don't set hook, I just keep pulling in steadily and let the circle hook work. J-Hook, I like a violent strip set but they probably just hang themselves, love the vicious takes of all RF and lings it is awesome on a fly rod.
