My main goal is to get out on the water as much as possible and have a good time.

I want to brush up and improve on my skills as a kayaker and fisherman. I'm pretty rusty after 2+ years off.

Prepare for next year. I'm going to take a lot of vacation time next year and try to make a lot of the tournaments up and down the coast.

No prob on the thread jack. I am also trying to master mooching.

Last time out (Moss skunk earlier this season) I used a single 5/0 Gam. Octopus circle hook. I started out out threading my 'chovies tail first with the hook point sticking out of the eye, a half hitch around the tail, and a "mooching band" around the gills. This held the bait really well, but it didn't have ANY action to it whatsoever. I also tried nose hooking, which gave a little more action but didn't hold the bait as well (felt like it would just rip off the hook if the salmon didn't mouth the whole thing).

I had an awesome 2013 and was able to put a lot of time on the salt. My list for 2014 will be more geared towards my daughter yak fishing experience's.

Get Skylar
1) trained in self rescue
2) on & off the salt safely
3) to keep her in love with the kayak fishing (NCKA) lifestyle
4) get her ready for 2015 JAOTY

ME
1) spend as much time on the water with Skylar as I can.

1. Get Valentina out on kayak as many times as possible
2. Get Jayme out on kayak at least once
3. Get my Dad to catch a Ling or cabbie when he visits in July (yak or PB)
4. Shoot another Halibut
5. Put in time underwater hunting WSB and Striper

Sincerely,

Jim

I mainly want to get into albacore on the "new to me" boat.
And get drawn for a premium deer tag in california.
Another kayak salmon limit would be nice as well.

I've never fished for albacore, but it sounds like a blast.

I'll add one more goal for the season:

- Bum a ride on someone else's boat for an albacore trip!

I want to learn to dive as well but I think I should be in better shape before I start. At 5' 7" and 240lbs and having just quit smoking about a month ago I'm afraid I'd just get myself into trouble. Not to mention I need to buy all the gear too.

I canned some salmon not long ago to practice for tuna. It turned out awesome and was way easier than I expected. Everyone should have a pressure cooker!

I've canned the albies a few times with good results but my favorite has been the sardines. Salt and jalapeno are all you need to add. I really want to can some salmon this year.

Are the light mutus legal for Ca salmon? For some reason I thought we had to use inline circle hooks but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the tips!

Pretty sure it just has to be a circle hook. That's a nice looking hook, but I like the offset eye of the Gama for snelling.

Still yet to catch one mooching, so take this with a grain of salt...
