Hello all Cambria Slam Down Anglers…

So with only a couple of days left until the CSD III event, it is apparent that there will be a high volume of registered anglers on tournament day.  We have discussed with a few members and long time anglers of CCKF that there must be a plan in place to help the tournament day run a little bit smoother. We have concluded that the best course of action with this high number is to allow for one additional launching location.

Launch Location
The two launch locations for the tournament will be San Simeon Cove and Leffingwell Landing. For those not familiar with the two separate locations, they are 6 miles apart with San Simeon being located North of Leffingwell. These will be the only approved launch locations and this will lighten the load on the beach at Leffingwell somewhat. On tournament morning, there will be two separate areas to grab ID markers for this year’s event. You may not enter any fish into the tournament without having your ID marker included in the photo, therefore it is very important that you obtain this ID marker on the day of the event.
One will be located on the north end of the beach at Leffingwell Landing and the other area will be located on a bench on the beach in San Simeon. There will be someone handing out the ID markers at both locations so be sure to find them before you launch so that you may obtain your ID marker. For those launching at San Simeon beach, launch time will be 6:30 with weigh in at Leffingwell no later than 2:30. For those launching at Leffingwell, launch time will be 6:45 with a weigh in at Leffingwell no later than 2:30. The extra 15 minutes allotted for those anglers launching at San Simeon is due to the travel time it takes to get from San Simeon to Leffingwell for weigh in. Please be clear, there will be no entries allowed after the 2:30 weigh in time.

Parking Area
I have included an image of an area that we must keep clear for the local rescue boat. This area is needed for a quick response to the area and will be marked off so please do not move cones or any other items blocking areas for parking of responders.

Captains Meeting at 6:30pm on 9/26/14
The Captains meeting will be located in the same location as last year for those that attended last year and for those not aware of that location it is in the San Simeon campground. When you enter into the facilities, there is a hill to the right. At the bottom of that hill is a little amphitheater which will be the location of the meeting. Captain’s bags will be handed out at the Captain’s meeting along with CSD clothing. We will also review launching and landing safety.  Please be sure to slow down and time your landings. There is no rush to get through that surf zone. If it’s slow and thought out, we will all be much safer.

POTLUCK and Trash starting at 4pm
Potluck will be located on the hill above the launch area. If you plan on sticking around for the potluck and prize ceremony, please bring your favorite dish to share with everyone. We will be having a fish fry so a fillet or two for the fryer is always welcomed.
We have arranged for a dumpster to be placed in the parking area for trash, as well as any fish cleaning. If you choose to clean your fish at Leffingwell, please bag the fish scraps before throwing away. If you choose to throw fish scraps back in the water that is fine as well. Please DO NO USE the parks 50 gallon trash cans for fish. We will be providing a trash can, just please empty every so often. There will be bags provided as well for the trash can. Please use the dumpster that will be in the parking area and the trash cans provided around that same area.  We need to leave that area as clean as when we arrived on Saturday morning.
Please check out the Potluck thread on the CCKF forum for further information. The more guys that contribute, the better it will be. Last year’s was great so let’s do that again!

Weigh In

Weigh in will be starting at 12:30 pm.  The final weigh in time is 2:30pm. There will not be any participants included in the tournament if you arrive after 2:30 pm, no exceptions. Please be prompt.
All anglers please conserve as much as possible and use Catch Picture Release (CPR). If you choose to take a photo of your fish to catch and release, be sure it is a good photo for viewing. We will have a laptop to use to upload your CPR photos to better assist with verifying length of the fish, so if you are taking a photo of your fish it would be helpful for you to bring your camera and camera cable to upload the photo. You must also include the CSD III ID marker in the picture. If it is not shown in the picture, your fish will not be included in the final weigh in.

CCKF Milk Crate

The way it works is, supply a new and unused lure for the crate and it gets raffled off. If you purchase raffle tickets, you have a chance to win the crate full of lures. The crate is a YakAttack Blackpak.

Raffle Tickets

Raffle tickets will be sold at camp and at the captains meeting. Tickets will be $5 each and all money raised goes towards Hero’s on the Water. You will also have a chance to win some of our awesome prizes!

Angler Safety
Please use safe boating at all times. Be considerate of other paddlers and power boaters at the launch and on the water. Please wheel your kayak when using the launch ramp in order to keep it clear as much as possible. During competition, each contestant is required to comply with USCG regulations. In addition, participants must wear a PFD at all times while competing in the event and must be in possession of a sounding device. Tournament days may be shortened or canceled due to unsafe weather or water conditions. The decision to shorten or to cancel will be left totally to the discretion of the tournament director. A 4-hour period shall constitute a day of fishing. Be aware of the tides, winds and swell forecasts prior to launching. Know the launch and landing area. Please be patient when coming in. There is always time to look over your shoulder and time it, especially at Leffingwell.
Also there will be a safety boat available on the water just use channel 69 to call for help. This is for emergency use, so please use if you need help or assistance.
Swell and wind seems to not be in our favor again this year, but about the same as last year with this one being more of a northern swell so the launch may be more protected then last but we will see on Saturday about that. Stay safe and only do what you feel comfortable with, there are plenty of chances to fish other days and still win prizes even without getting on the water. So come on out and enjoy the coast with us.

LAST but not LEAST
Come on down to the campgrounds in the evening and check out Joe Koenig & The Homewreckers. They have some great new tunes that are definitely worth your time!

Here are a couple of videos to check out

Although the show at the campground will be super mellow… acoustic style…

Look forward to meeting a lot of new people and seeing some good friends.
See you all on Friday or Saturday.
Tight Lines,
Ryan Howell

I can't make the Captain's meeting.  What should I do early Saturday?

Yep, Captains bags will be available at the Leffingwell launch on Saturday morning and make sure to grab a CSDIII ID Marker which is a floating keychain that will be available that morning at both launch locations.

Yes, can someone explain the purpose of the captains meeting? I have work until late friday and can not make the tournament until saturday morning. Info much appreciated. Thanks.

Captains meeting is for collection of captains bags as well as go over safety of the area, I can catch anyone that misses up on Saturday morning on the beach.

longest fish ncka insiders group pool???

say 10$ each for biggest fish of any type by length???..after weigh in on sat ----nor cal side bet group ,huddle up----like at the sand crab classic????
I'm in

anyone want to play?

or 5$....whatever folks want
like this day

EDIT_________________________________-------------------------------------------------______________________
an inside ncka side bet would be hard to confirm late bets, if no one had internet down there ,so--- if folks did chime in and pool start today/tonight... should we close the bet @ like fri 10 a.m so that those folks heading down to pre camp will know the members -total-in the pool and avoid confusion????

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”
