Yeah, remember me buddy, i'll be the one paddling around picking up crap out of your "backyard" river. Tell me again what you do that makes you so high and mighty? Most spearos care more about the environment than most people/anglers.

Uh, I host the annual American River Fish and Cleanup.

...and the big stripers at Centerfolds on wednesday morning was meant for Fishmaster1, and it was a joke.  :smt002

Great music!  And for the record,  sac crew guys you should recognize as well, this was filmed in lower river, below the 160 bridge...all you'r pet fish are above Howe.  sheesh
and, stripers are in invasive, eat many many smolt, taste good and are legal...  Kill 'em, kill 'em all !!!!!!  or not as it wont matter anyway.  If I want to catch pet fish I have a pond full of koi, I see A. river striper as wild and ready for harvest.

Welcome to NCKA :)

Striped bass is not an "invasive species", they are a "non native species."  The difference being that an invasive species has no natural predators and wreaks havoc on the environment and therefore is targeted for elimination, like lionfish in Florida.  A non native species like striped bass was imported from the east coast and has been cohabitating in California for a century without issue.  They are not a destructive species and should be respected as any other native species would be.

At least one diver group has showed up here stating that they lobbied for the striped bass spearfishing allowance as mitigation against striped bass depradation on salmon smolt.  And this argument is still confusing to many.

Like I said, every user group has their A-holes.  Speaking for myself, I was unaware of the battle that had been going on before this.  When I went to the meetings to request this change, nobody said that it was a bad idea or that it would add to the problem so I never saw it as an issue.  Later I was told that no one brought it up because no one thought it would go through.

As one of the spearos that lobied to get this passed, I now feel an obligation to see it through and try to get us all on the same page.  Every user group has their a-holes but we also have our hard working, environmentally conscious individuals that will put just as much effort into protecting these fish as anyone.

I just don't see the tension helping anyone.   The regulation isn't going to change so attitudes have to.  If an unaware spearo comes on and posts something that he doesn't realize will offend others I think education is the most productive action.  I see the misinformation about the regulations as adding to the tension because what law abiding fisherman isn't offended by someone they believe is poaching, or they themselves being accused of poaching?

I've been telling divers, and I know I told this one, to be respectful and non-confrontational.  Try to be friendly and show people that you respect the resource and the regulations.

Is this regarding the possession of a speargun on the Parkway?

I meant to only quote the part in the post above for a question Joshua but it came out without quotation marks.
