Thanks for sharing interesting adventure. Murky green water doesn't entice me, but it was interesting watching what you saw in my  backyard.   Thanks for sharing (and enduring the abuse).

Lmfao at you. I'll keep an eye out for the striper with your name on it's side. I have no desire to "shoot a big striper" if I choose to shoot one to knock off the bucket list, well that's my right as much as it is yours to hook them. I personally have no desire to load up on striper. I can fish from my back door all day long and real them in. I'm over them. I'm there for the experience and hopefully being able to observe their behaviour underwater.

Yeah, remember me buddy, i'll be the one paddling around picking up crap out of your "backyard" river. Tell me again what you do that makes you so high and mighty? Most spearos care more about the environment than most people/anglers.

If you really want to make a stand how about you go try to help get rid of all the tweaker camps on your precious river. I'm sure they are all fishign with licenses and obeying size limits and C&R.

Seriously wow. I guess I found the spear board of line fisherman. I am not a troll, I posted something I thought others might enjoy. You don't like it, you can, Idk go away and not watch it?

Have fun C&R striper in your dumpster river, oh, and try making a stand somewhere it might actually better the sport, rather than people that actually care about preserving it and obeying laws.

Hilarious you automatically tag me as a striper anhilator. I attend CSBA meeting from time to time, care about laws and not wiping them out, never once said I even would shoot one in the original post. Maybe I like carp. If you notice the video was titled freediving, not spearfishing, the american. I'm not saying I wouldn't take one, but it's not like I was there to kill as many as  i could FFS

Taking care of our river?
Picking up trash? That's awesome. If you look thru the site you'll see we have an American River hookup every year and pick up stuff as well.

Amazing all these folks picking up trash but the river is still a mess.
The stand was with the guys that shot the hogs and put them in the trash at Howe last year. Someone has a picture. I don't. They were speared and left. Two close to 25-30 pounders I guess. And yeah it's your right. Exercise it I guess. No one can keep you from that right.

That's an awesome event, maybe if you aren't an asshole more people would want to stick around long enough to get involved?

Seriously dude. If you don't agree that's fine. I didn't come here for trouble. Try educating rather than running people off. Let it go, and I will do the same.

Ummm ... you posted you were there opening day for stripers.

Went to the American River opening day for stripers.

And in your video, you're carrying a spear.  Seems only logical that 2+2=4.  Or maybe you went out on opening day for stripers ... to spear carp.  ???  Whatever.

FWIW, I don't agree with how the whole thing of legalizing spearing of stripers went down.  But as you stated, and others have acknowledged, it is your right, so enjoy.

Hmm could have sworn I ended that with i'm not saying I wouldn't shoot one.

Yes, stripers are running and that's why  i went there. I explained my plans. I would probably shoot one. I have no desire to shoot any more than one time to experience stalking one.

And how are you going to sit here and flame every spearo for the actions of some that left some. I'm sure there are plenty of H&L fisherman keeping undersized, killing, wasting. But it's always us. Actions of one ruin it for everyone.

Or maybe you were there for carp?  Hah!  Not sure what you were trying to say.

If you really want to waste some time, read this thread ... http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=34891.0

But read it beginning to end, or you'll miss the whole point of it!   :smt002

Sorry if I wasn't clear on the last part, I was not denying the possibility of shooting one small striper. But I am by no means there to shoot a hog or limit. Like I said, i've had my fill of stripers. Sturgeon on the other hand.... Haha..

If this was to run off a troll I get it, but i'm not a troll. I've been on NCUH for a while and meant to get on here over a year ago but never got around to it.

And yes I do spear and eat carp.... I would rather spear one of those than a striper (minus the "one" for the bucket list...)

Hey Wilderness medic ... welcome!  Sincerely.   :smt006

We sometimes like to debate here, but we do so as brothers do (and sometimes it works better in person with beers in hand).   I'm sure you'll come to see that, and hopefully appreciate it.

I mean, even Mr.Matt and I have gone a few rounds.  But we're going to wet a line together on Friday, so you see where that leads!

Well thanks. Glad this is going in a positive direction. Like I said, I didn't mean to come here and start a fight. I've been wanting to get on here since last year when I hooked my first yak sturgeon. Finally got around to it.

Talking with Matt privately... understanding more why everyone jumped so quick.

There are two issues that don't help anyone. The first is people that keep antagonizing sportsmen on the other side of this argument. The second is all the bad information that keeps us arguing and fighting amongst ourselves.

While it is against Sacramento Regional Parks District regulations to possess a speargun in the American River Parkway, the parkway is defined as the land on both sides of the river, not the river itself. SRPD does not have the jurisdiction to regulate a navigable waterway.

The two large striped bass that were supposedly thrown in the trash at Howe Ave. never happened. That was a picture of an NCKA member and his friend that speared a couple big ones in Rhode Island. That rumor was laid to rest and it really sucks that it keeps coming up. I'd be pissed too if it actually happened.

There's gonna be a bad apple in every bunch. Let's remember that the actions of few should not reflect on the many. We'd all be screwed if we could be judged for the actions of others in our user groups.

What I saw in the video is that it's not as easy as some people think to spear stripers in the AR.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
