I'm in the same boat with needing a new rod/rell setup. I was looking at a Shimano Torium reel with either a Tallas or a tallavera rod.

I love Trevala 7' ML version, I like the older model, they seems to work very well....

You will be using this setup a lot. And knowing you, Ben...you'll take care of it and it will last for a long time. So get yourself something nice. If you're set on a Trevala, checkout the TVC66M (or MH) and the TVC70M (or MH if you can find one). I've got both of those rods. But I really like Seeker rods--new Stealth series is a good deal.

I agree. Sold all my Trevalas and love my Seekers. Feel like I get a much better hookset.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

How can you tell what the action is on a Seeker rod? I'm looking at them right now.

my go-to rods are currently a 7.5ft parabolic Gloomis, and a custom 6.5ft calstar 700 (I think ml).
finally got avet sx reels on them and I'm set with 30lb braid.
Both of these rods have worked well for our standard species up to 25#, I just keep hoping to push the envelope :smt002

Ugly Stick Tiger, medium heavy, Penn 209. Fish don't care if you drive a BMW. Besides, if you dump and loose it, you dont have to cash in your IRA to replace it. Just my humble opinion.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Pacifica Sabre $39.00 Big Five special. Stiff enough to yank upward and snap 30# test leader when hung up. Any reel that takes a couple hundred yards of 50# braid and has a drag. Cheap, simple, expendable.

I only buy quality fishing gear. I highly value my fishing time and as such, I like to invest in and use quality gear. Life is short and I deserve good shit. Same thing with vehicles and women.  :smt003

I am right there with you, either a  Ugly Stick tiger lite with a Abu 6501C3 or a Penn Surfmaster 100, they go down just dig up another.  The more expensive reels have there place but hard to justify 3-400 dolars on a 1-2 lb fish. Surfmaster is a tank and repair parts are readily availble.
