I am bass fishing on Berryessa on Sat the day before the BSS4 .I am paddling  at full speed across a area  when I hear a huge splash over by the shore and it is a ways off so I grab the only thing I can throw that far a 16-20 foot deep diving cranbait . I sling it as hard as I can ( it is on a 9 foot old school glass rod Browning siloflex)  it splashes down in the spot the fish just broke . I engage the reel and bang he is pulling like a train , big fight from a ways off. I get fish up beside the boat and see a silver fish so I am freaking out in my head (( I got one of the Salmon I heard about ))   I  loosen my drag and let the fish go a bit it was still full of energy ...bring it back in and am very happy I think I just caught a Salmon on a crankbait..never seen a Rainbow thought before// I paddle over showing Ryder and he saves me from further embarrassment calling out on radio about my Salmon on a crankbait , Thanks Ryder.....looks like Berryessa is like the salt "you never know what you will catch"
From what I am told this is a  beast of a Rainbow for my first and for Berryessa....
Have a great day...

Glad you got into a nice trout Howard! That's quite the chunkster! I was hoping to catch something "edible" all weekend but never did.

That's a bitchin' first rainbow trout!  You'll be spoiled from now on, because 22+ inchers are hardly an everyday catch.  Nice work!

I was cracking up when you said it was your first trout ever.
That thing had some shoulders.
Well done!
