Recent posts show increased interest in kayak fishing in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.  Would you like to see a separate forum under "local scenes" on this site that focused on the Delta?

I don't know the area that well but is there a reason it would not fit in the Sacto forum?

Hey Bill while you're at it can get a Western Sonoma County / Bodega Bay forum?  Oh and maybe a Fort Ross forum?  Oh yeah and a Kayak Abalone Diving forum?

Opps did I just type that, sometimes my sarcasm overwhelms me.  I have to agree with you Bill, I thought the Sacramento Area Forum was the Detla forum.

Thanks,
Brian

Mooch,

I found the woman for you.  Renata Chlumska is finishing her bike/kayak US circumnavigation tomorrow in Seattle.

"Sacto Kayak Anglers

Talk about fishing in the state capitol"

Maybe a name change or at least a change in the description.  I have lived and fished in the Delta a long time and never fished in "the state capitol."  Sacramento is in the Delta but is only a very tiny part of the Delta.

Technically, any town on the Sacramento or San Joaquin Rivers, or their tributaries, until they meet the Pacific Ocean could be considered in the Delta (though others might consider the Delta ending at the first estuary bay).   However you define it this is an area that consists of at least 1,100 miles of waterways from Fresno in the south to Redding in the north, and from Clements in the east to San Francisco in the west.  But I don't think many people picture fishing just inside Sacramento when they think of, or look on line for, Delta fishing.  I know I don't.

Depending on how you define the area,  Delta fishing can range from cold, shallow, clear trout waters to the swift tidal shark and sturgeon waters of the San Francisco Bay, and eveything in between.  But I don't think many people picture doing all that in Sacramento when they think of, or look on line for, Delta fishing.  I know I don't.

Sacramento is a great town.  Fishing and kayaking in the parts of the Sacramento and American Rivers that flow through Sacramento are worthy of note.  But all that said, Sacramento is not the Delta and Delta fishing is not accurately or adequately described as "fishing in the state capitol."

So, rant over, don't want to cause unnecessary work for anyone, just thought the Delta and people online who want to post and read about it deserve a little more accurate and helpful treatment.  I thought it might be helpful to NorCal Kayak Anglers to provide that teatment.

I invite you to reconsider your thoughts and vote on this matter, but, however you come down on this, I certainly respect the consensus of the community.  Thanks for your time.

Why not just rename the "Sacto Area forum" to "Delta Forum"?

I personally would like the name to be changed to "Norcal/Central Inland Waters".

How about:

Sacramento, the Delta, and NorCal inland.

Fishing in the state capital and inland freshwater.

Or:

NorCal Inland

Fishing in the Delta, Motherlode, Sierra, and beyond.
