Softub PIF Giveaway...Thanksgiving Day is the day!!!

PS: I've been on the lost coast until yesterday or I would've done this the first day after event...no cell service for me there now I'm hanging waiting for VK to get off work at 5:30 to return his trailer he so generously offered up for US... pretty involved didn't know what I was getting myself into...but in the end it will be awesome!!! It already is!!! Seeing peeps open up their hearts...pretty kewel stuff!!! I've gotten a LOT out of our community (friends) and this is my way of giving back...so if ya think I'm slacking I'm not...got to my parents home yesterday and found my 76 yr old father looking like this


Fell out the back of his pickup on his head 7 stitches under skalp 15 staples outside!!! Still working...I tell him he needs to go enjoy life while he can...send out some prayers for him he almost died!!!

Sorry to hear about your dad Mike!!  Hope he recovers quickly! 

No PayPal donations as of yet...attached is a screenshot showing recent transactions, all AOTY/DOTY payments. There is currently $627 (above the $1300 needed for AOTY/DOTY plaques) available for Porky's daughter in the Paypal account. I texted him just now and let him know that I can transfer it to him as soon as he needs it.

Not sure what to tell you about the taxes on the tub....I think you need to figure out the exact numbers ASAP and post here so everyone knows what you are dealing with....

IMO, people need to know up front where the $ they donate is going and if any is being used to cover costs or taxes or whatever...

Thanks for posting up the list of names and for getting that check in the mail to Porky. I'll make sure he keeps an eye out for it!!

Sledge,  Thanks for putting the NCKA family first.  I appreciate the hard work and effort you put into this.

I first should say that I have been a big PIF supporter in the past but have not purchased any raffle tickets for the tub yet.

I can say I do have a few concerns,  mine alone. 

I'm nervous.  I think that the idea of your "expenses" concerns me.  You cut a deal with Jack to run the soft tub for the GS weekend for $45.  I get that this was out of pocket for you however I'm surprised Jack would not allow for some level allowance for power use given our presence that weekend.  Anyway,  I feel like the $45 that you opted to pay Jack for the additional time was misguided,  especially when he did not ask for it.  Was this $45 given to Jack to cover the additional two weeks you stayed and ran the tub (only assuming).   I figure that this money belongs to Porky's family.  I have kids,  two in fact and have had scary medical situations for both.  It took a few years to get them all paid off.  I would be willing to bet that the extra $45 would have been helpful to Porky's family.

Will there be expenses in the future? 

I am also getting the sense form the information posted here that you could be running into a snag as far as the tax situation.  BMB2.0 might add a little insight but I'm willing to bet the dealer wants to write this off as a charitable donation.   PIF would need to be set up as a charitable organization with the Feds to make that happen. I think they are trying to avoid that and keep this as a down low cash deal so the Feds are out of the loop.   It might be wise to jump on this before there is a bigger issue and the prize goes away.  They may need to think of this as a marketing expense and the events might need to have that taken into account in the future.

It was great hanging with you at GS.  Right now I'm wishing I was back there.

I can understand the sensitivity around "PIF" and "NCKA" in relation to fund raising and keepng an impeccable reputation.

On the other hand I think some people are losing sight of the fact that unless something really goes bad, Hailey's family will benefit significantly from Sledge's efforts,

I've donated to just about every cause that has come across this board and it bothers me to see peeps sniping at Sledge for the way his efforts are coming out in the short term.

They have plenty to write off....so that's not it...the concern is when something is donated for a charitable org...there is tax to be paid to state...I'm new to this and don't quite understand it... but PIF needs to do what's been discussed on another thread ....I spoke in depth with PK the other day....it's between who ever needs to make that call and do the paper work...in my opinion with out the softub...this yr would probably go over the 10k gift clause...it's doubled and doubled every yr till it's getting way big...and my hope is to double it in one fell swoop...

On costs I have many but am not deducting them from the kitty....I drained the tub on Mon...after meet....ghoust and bunny were leaving that day...so no I wasn't set up for another week.......I wish:) could of used it!!! But I've spent at least $250.00 on fuel running back and fourth 3 times from lake co. To SR to meet with dealers and get it done...the only way I could get it done was to agree to pay for half the tub and I do the setup and teardown!!! I'm good with that because we have peeps that need a little help!!! I got a little tattered sat...grieving for mooch kind of set me off...found myself tearing up in front of total strangers explaining what the raffle was all about!!! And what PIF represents!!! Kind of hard to explain to someone who dosnt know NCKA!!! BUT I was trying!!! And quite a few locals chipped in........and there's a container up at the store with 20 tickets there for the locals to get in on it.....and someone at some point needs to pop in there and collect money and send it to Porky...and get tickets to me to put in BOX!!! I'm coming into my work season where I work everyday 12-14 hr days for 3 months and If 2014 PIF is in Sept will have to have someone go to A HOT TUB PLACE and bring it to event!!! If it's Oct I can make it.....I head to WA after Humboldt fair till end of Sept.........and come back beginning of Oct hope it's in Oct!!!! But if I can't make it when u guys paddle out to the mile buoy toast one for me for da mooch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had to hustle from Shelter cove to my pops and than deliver trailer to VK an than work a Home Show in Marin....now I have time to mail Brent the first installment of raffle I don't have a checking account so will do a money order....and it will be 34 because I bombed over to Mulege Mike's and he couldn't make the PayPal work so I'm getting cash...

But the ninety I decucted was the only deduction I made..........................all I got into this if peeps think I made a bad move well live with it...just seemed like the right thing to do....really the right thing to do was jack should've PIF'd the power/water but he's there to make money and there's nothing wrong with that!!!

Hope I covered the question's and keep the discussion going I'm new to this.............and am learning on th fly!!!

Thanks SLedge, you are doing  a lot more than almost all of us and we all appreciate your hard work on this. I'm sure someone will figure out the issues you are having. Good luck selling those SoftTubs in the coming months. Who knows maybe someone on this site will actually buy one. If I didn't already have one I would be looking into it.

Sledge - you're doing an awesome job.  Folks think its easy, its not. The minor expense is well within bounds IMHO.  There will likely be more minor expenses and your gas cost will be crazy, but the costs will be hard to know in advance, that's how these things work...
 I'll paypal a couple tickets later this week when i have the $

The issue about whether or not to make PIF a non-profit is one that we A-Hulls have discussed at length and the group consenus was to NOT do it right now.

It may happen in the future but it is not going to happen right now...

So if our lack of non-profit status is an issue to the company whose tub it is...please don't count on us to turn into a non-profit in order to resolve the issue...because I would hate for there to be any repurcussions for you or the company...

Also, we could have used some of the AOTY/DOTY reg fees to establish ourselves as a non-profit this year, but the groups consensus was to instead give all the $ to the PIF recipient instead.

I'm no tax expert, but I imagine we can find a way around the 10K gift clause limit if it comes to that...multiple members of family etc...

Anyway, thanks again for what you are doing and please keep us posted.

 Your doing the right thing Sledge, you have a huge heart and a noble liver indeed. I think everything will turn out fine, just remember it's your gig and it all balances on the decisions that you alone make. Stay on it and be proactive. I'll throw in a fish fossile for the deck.

Finally!!! Porky should see a priority care package tomorrow or the next....would've overnighted it, but my pockets arn't deep this time of yr........so only thing deducted was power and water $90.00 from 34 tickets/$680.00......$590.00

Name is Mighty Dog who I met at OC month or so ago...he's A Clamper...kewl peeps!!! Had to replace a high pressure power steering line on my truck...was leaking out of two pin holes!!! Had a shop and invited me over and helped me fix it!!! Couldn't of .Done it without him...was telliing him about PIF and he bought a ticket!!!

I'm going to take a power nap!!! Wake up and head to OC Baby!
