used to catch those guys in the rivers back in iowa, but nothing that big.  they have a real tough mouth so it's hard to get a hook to stick in them.

That was my first thought. And even if they are eating them, killing that many 7' gars seems irresponsible...Cool fish, though.

Yep, on the In Fisherman show they used relatively small hooks and let the fish swallow the bait.

Man Mooch, that is one weird looking lizard--looks like the inspiration for the creature in the Alien series of movies. It isn't the teeth or other things that would worry me--it's jsu the sheer size. There are limits to what a kayak can hanlde safely and those guys are sea monster size compared to our little boats. I don't plan on being Captain Ahab any time soon.
