I am over whelmed by the choices of saddles, cross bars, pads, j racks, t racks, etc etc.  What is the best system for transporting my 12 foot Hobie mirage outback on racks?  I keep hearing about warping hulls and oil canning etc. I have a jeep with a congo cage and Yakima crossbars so I can adapted just about anything.  I just need to know what works best for my yak. Thanks for all the help!

Usually upside down on a padded or not padded crossbar is best.

+1.  You don't need saddles, huly rollers, j-racks, t-racks or anything else.  I made that mistake early on also.  Thought I needed all that crap.  Now my two kayaks sit on top of my unpadded crossbars upside down.  Save yourself the hassle.

Guys its for a hobie not a kayak.....I suggest a double axle trailer with weight distribution hitch and heavy duty leaf springs  :smt003

A dozen differrent paddlecraft over the past ten years, never had any real issues with an upside down boat on a padded bar. Be sure to have a bow line to secure teh bow to the bumper.

Then again, I'm a cheap mofo and never wanted to spring for the fancy saddles.   So long as you don't crank the life out of your boat when tieing it down I think you'll be fine.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

I use Landshark Saddles on my Tacoma and have for 10 years. I love them. Yaks sit upright and snug. No need for a bowline. I also use one of those slideout bars for loading solo. My Hobie has rode in those saddles at least 50K plus miles with no problems.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

Upside down on padded bars.  I've tried all the saddles and cradles, it's just a whole lot easier (and cheaper) to keep it simple.

LOL.

+1.  Very cheap insurance.  If I can see them, then I still have kayaks.

Only once did I not use a bow line and I was nervous during the entire 20 mile drive.

I bet Yakima would even suggest using a bow line with the saddles.

After 50K miles I don't even think about it. I do use cable locks as back ups.

After 50K miles I don't even think about it. I do a minimum of 2k every time I hit the coast. I do use cable locks as back ups.

just like everyone says...upside down on the cross bars, along with two bow lines. Do not tighten down too tight. Just a little hard to get up there by yourself, Ron

I put some king of stoppers on my Yakima rack cross bars. There flat on bottom and have a small vertical edge.  Can't recall the name of the things, Yakima lists them on there site.
