Decided early Saturday morning to hit the loch Sunday morning befor it closes next week.  My buddy was able to get up eariler than me and was on the water by 9am.  I arrived at 9:46.  Not to bad.  Was going to try for bluegil/ crappi.  Wasn't able to find the little critters anywhere!.  Did manage to land a 3" large mouth though Hahahaha... Did see that the bass population is going to very healthy.
On our way back from the narrows, I decided to troll a Rooster tail, on my trout rod. As I paid out line, I got side tracked, set my rod in the rearward facing rod holder and while I was fussing around, the lure fell, as I stopped forward momentum.  We'll the roostertail hooked one of them nemisis stick fishes, and as I saw the tip starting to bend backwards, (due to drift) I watched in amazement/horror as my rod ever so slowly, popped out of the rod holder and splash! sink to a watery grave!
With 25' marked on the FF and no mask or swim fins, my favorite trout rod was gone!  To make things worse, I had my rodleash tied to the yak!  (just not the ROD!)  The one stinking time I choose NOT to use it, Wham I needed it most!.
Oh well.  I learned a good lesson that day! TIE crap on!
Weather was beautiful.  There must have been at least 30 kayakers on the lake that day!  Certinally more yakers than boaters.
No opsray action while I on the water.

So, I'm off to which ever retail therapy outlet has the shakespear 5' Ugly stixcheaper.  I have a spare shimano spirex 2000 reel to load on it.

Sorry about the rod. the Bass bite tehre is tough--especially if you get there late morning or so--I should know since it happened to me last week. Just so you know: no Crappie in Loch Lomond though I don't know why they never pput them in there--they'd thrive I'd guess. Bass, trout, Catfish, Bluegill, and Green Sunfish. I plan on giving it one more go before it closes for the season but I am a masochist and enjoy being humiliated by creatures with fins and gills and purportedly much less intelligent than I am.

There is no real forage for crappie in loch lomond.

They would have to put shad in too (which they should do anyway in my opinion).

Too bad about the rod.  Did you try to drag for it?

Yes tehy should put in Threadfin Shad--it would make for a much healthier LMB population as well. Who knows, they might even be able then to put in SMB as well and even Stripers.

Crappie will do quite well on fry other than Shad. My home lake has a decent population of good sized (12-14") Crappie, without any Shad.  In fact, in this lake, Crappie and Green Sunfish are a bycatch when LMB fishing.

Of course, I'd still like to dump about 100 pounds of threadfin shad into this lake, to turn the already quite good LMB fishing into World Class LMB fishing :)

Regards,
Scott

Mooch, any time you want to go SMB fishing at Del Valle, let me know brudda. Its cooling down and the boat traffic will be dropping off. Maybe time to get over there soon.

Changing the subject, I wonder how Zeelander is doing at the Tubes and OP today. I was supposed to meet MolBasser at Loch Lomond closing day tmorrow but he had to cancel, So I'll either fish there by myself or elsewhere or fish both Sat and Sun and work Friday instead. OP might be the place to go this weekend--but it might be crowded.
