Hi gang,

Hope to see you guys at the Randy Fry Tourney!

To answer a coupe of questions - we have reserved group campsite #2 and folks are welcome to camp there or in an individual campsite (first come, first served). There are lots of other state park campgrounds in the nearby area.

The tourist crowds have really thinned out on the north coast and last year there was plenty of room.

We will be raffling off a NEW 2007 Prowler Big Game Ocean Kayak after the 2pm weigh in. Tix are $5.

There are divisions for freediving, abalone, kayak angling, shore angling. You can enter in as many categories as you wish.
It's a team event - 2 persons per team; we can match you up if you can't find a buddy. This is for safety reasons...

This is on the RFA website....
Rules: This is a team event, 2 per team. Each team must check in at Ocean Cove Campground and check out by 2pm for the weigh in. Trophies awarded for Free Dive Spear, Shore Angling, Kayak Angling and Abalone Diving. Largest aggregate team weight wins. Violation of DFG rules, late check out disqualifies. More Info: (707) 357-3422.

Maybe Jim will make it to Mendo Friday evening and we can get more details.

I am bringing my dad and stepmom to this evet to introduce them to kayak fishing.

Mooch, I'll wear a matching speedo and be your partner, if you are interested.  One thing to keep in mind, though ... speedos are also called “banana hammocks”, and as we all know, bananas are bad luck.  This makes me really question the rationality of wearing matching speedos, but Ill do anything for the Mooch.

I have never fished at a tournement but you guys have my juices flowing.  I have fished the Salt Point area several times and really like it up there.  I alredy have a trip planned up there for October 20-22 with some old college buddies but may end up missing that one because of a business trip to Australia.  Let me see if I can work the WAF and other factors to make this work.  If Australia falls though I may stay up there all week!  Both my wife and kid are out of school for two weeks at that time.  I am definately intrieged by the idea, having retired from competitive footbag when I was at the top of my game (10 years ago), a little competition in life could be fun.

When we were camping at Stillwater Labor Day weekend, another camper told us about this event.  She also mentioned they added the kayak fishing division.  I'd like to go if I can.

I'n not 100% sure (I'll need to reevaluate the WAF next week), but Team Bodega will probably have two teams representing NCKA at Randy Fry.

Here is additional info I received from Jim Martin.  Represent well guys!
Hi Pat,

Great to get a chance to chat with you at Lake Mendocino last week. We're getting geared up for the Randy Fry Big X Tourney, and hope it's okay to post about it on the NCKA board. Can you forward this to the group? I don't want to post it without permission, but we'd be very happy if kayak anglers came to the event. We can strategize more about the MLPA too. Sorry you can't make it. Maybe next year? Anyway, here are the links for more info about the event.

We had about 60 participants and many more attendees last year; it was a lot of fun and great food with good company.

Thanks for posting that, Pat!

We have group campsite #2 reserved, and the north coast has really cleared out for the off-season. Plenty of individual campsites available.  The weather prediction is greasy flat with fog & drizzle.

The tourney includes an outdoor seafood lunch and a chance to win a new Big Game Prowler fishing kayak.

Thanks for your support.
