Heck, October 7th is my birthday so, if I convince the wife, I'd like to spend it fishing.

But where is Ocean Cove since we have to fish near there to be able to make the weigh in?

Mooch, where do you have in mind fishing. Or are you thinking shore fishing for Surf Perch? (just kidding  :smt003)

Yeah.  Who will be the NCKA leader and put us on some fish?  I do not know the area.  Camping?

Pat,

That location makes sense--Randall Fry was a North Coast Abalone diver killed by a GWS a few years ago somewhere along the 'Lost Coast' North of Fort Bragg. I remember this because randall Fry was a key member of the Recreational Fshng Alliance and his death created a stir on Dan Blanton's BB.

Apparently he and a buddy went abalone diving in a small cove even though there were a lot of Sea Lions round on the rocks (first warning sign) Randy was wearing an olive camo wet suit. I guess that isn't a good choice (looks close to a Sea Lion color) because his buddy was wearing all black and the shark went right by his buddy (he felt the water push him aside as it swam by it was that close to him) to attack Randall just as he dove down to go after abalone.

If I do fish the tourney, I am glad my kayak is bright white, wouldn't be taking olive or brown up there. Uh uh.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it, but there's good fishing out of Ocean Cove, nearby Stillwater Cove, Fort Ross, Gerstle Cove (Salt Point State Park), and Anchor Bay is about 20 minutes up the road.

Is it just me, or does this seem to be a spearfishing/ab diving tournament only?

I really think we should warn them before Joel shows up in his speedo.

I thougth they were adding fishing sections including sruf fishing though.

And yeah, I think a waring about Mooch's Speedo and apron is approriate--in fact mandatory.

It looks like I will be able to fish this one and camp out for the weekend.  When I fished Ocean Cove last weekend the campground was half empty.  I wonder if it will fill up for the tourney?  I have fished OC quite a few times now and have found some productive spots that I would be willing to share with you guys.  Salt Point is about a 20-30 minute paddle to the north and there is a ton of good structure up there too.

This has previously been purely a spearo event.  RFA is looking to build on the good rapport that has developed between the spearo community and kayak anglers over the MLPA process.  So, they have added a kayak hook and line category.

Randy and I can't make the new date............. :smt012

I'm in.  Pat, please let me know if I can crash at the NCKA campsite.

They only take reservations for their group sites, which I don't think have fire pits.  All the other sites are first come first serve.  The sites are not individually marked and you pay per vehicle.  You just pay for your vehicle and find a spot.  There is a lot of room here so we could probably find an area and make it the NCKA campsite.
