Crack is Whack - Cart shattered

Went out fishing today and as I was about to pull the kayak to the water, I heard a "crunch" sound. Looked back and didn't see anything wrong which I thought was rather odd as the "crunch" sound was pretty loud. So I started to pull again... Felt a lot of resistance. From that point on, I instantly knew what had happened.

I looked at the bottom of the kayak and the photo is what I saw next.

...determined to go fishing, I collected the shattered pieces only to throw them away in a nearby garbage can. I lifted the kayak with one hand using the side strap and lifted the front of the kayak by a rope with the other hand. Carefully balancing the kayak with one wheel, I slowly pulled it to my launch sight which was about 20 yards from me.

I limped the kayak on one wheel hoping it won't shatter as the single wheel is now baring all the weight by itself... Once on the water, I fished for bass and caught a 5 pounder on my 3rd cast. The drop shot rig can't be beat.

Anywho, just wanted to share my brief adventure this evening... If anybody wants to sell a kayak cart, feel free to let me know.

Not to be a downer bro. But are those golf cart wheels.

I have the balloon wheels on my cart. Had it for seven years now and it only has one misshaped wheel. I've taken it on all sorts of terrain and it keeps on trucking with the Outback on it

I've seen it done.  But you also have to watch out for clearance because the wheels are huge compared to the standard Hobie ones. A Trax 2 cart is similar but of course, $$$$.  Wheeleez beach cart are the best but they do last a long time and they can transfer to most boat models.

This is my cart for my Hobie Adventure. One inch copper pipe fits nicely into the scupper/cart holes. The axle is 5/8ths threaded rod found in hardware stores in 36 inch lengths. 3/4 PVC is slipped over the rod only for use as a spacer . Two nuts per wheel threaded on the rod and when tightened against one another lock the axle/wheel assembly into place. Wheels are 12 inches tall and are from Harbor Freight. Cart is 31 inches wide and was built for stability, and strength. Copper pipe I had, the copper T fittings were around ten bucks apiece. The threaded rod around seven dollars, the wheels were 13 dollars apiece. It has worked very well on sand and going over the rock "stairs" at Stillwater north. The rubber retainer devise attaches to two small holes in the top of the pipe and prevents the cart from falling away from the yak when the yak is lifted up.

Nice job Charles. I was looking for a much easier fix other than buying another new cart. I added tennis ball to each riser tube to cushion the cart from the Kayak plus it raises the distance some 1.5 inches taller. I'm just hoping the shaft diameter is the same as the heavy duty cart wheels for the balloon tires they offer. So far no real issues since the ground has been hard enough to not cause any issues.
