This is the biggest tournament in the NW.  And this year, it has been added as a Hobie Worlds qualifying event, meaning if you win it, you will be invited to participate in the 2014 Hobie Worlds in Amsterdam.

This is correct! Chance of winning a spot on Hobie Team North America this year in Amsterdam. There's only 5 spots available from North America and Oregon is the only Hobie qualifier west of Kansas. Come join us!
Here's some video of last years ORC tournament.

I believe the winner will have a Hobie immediately after the awards are handed out.  :smt001

Sign up now if you're going.  There is a cap at 120 and I'm pretty sure it will fill.

****************IMPORTANT UPDATE********************

This year we are needing to manage the tournament roster differently for the ORC.

The roster for the 2014 ORC will be limited to 120 competitors.

This was a decision made by the group of guys taking on the organization of this years tournament.  The main reasons for this decision are: 1) The Depoe Bay Harbor has a limit to the amount of traffic of fishing craft that it can safely accommodate.  2) Parking in the area around the harbor is limited. 3) A limit to the number of competitors makes the logistics of the tournament much more easy to arrange and manage.

This tournament has grown steadily over the years but in previous years the number of competitors hasn't been more than 85 so the limit of 120 still allows room for growth and will hopefully be enough to accommodate the additional competitors that may attend due to this tournament being the only West Coast Hobie Worlds Qualifying event.

We must keep in mind that we are not the only group of fishermen that will be planning on using the Depoe Bay Harbor that day.  It is reasonable to assume that power boaters may be targeting off-shore tuna, ocean salmon, and possibly halibut out of Depoe Bay so we must try to leave room for them too.

Finally, we will not be posting a list of competitors or the current number of competitors that are currently signed up for the tournament.  As you can probably guess, this is our tough-love way of encouraging people to sign up early instead of waiting until the last week before the tournament to make the commitment.

Looks like the tourney is at least 2/3 of the way to the cap of 120.  Sign up now if you plan on going.

I got room in my car for at least one more.

Hmm, tempting proposition.  About $300 dollars in gas to split, outta state 3 day license, plus camping. Light/flag combo for Oregon, tournament cost, and food. Anything significant I missed? Most likely next year for me, but sounds like a lotta fun.-Amos

That's about right.  Although what you're missing is that this years tournament is a Hobie Worlds qualifier.  You have a chance at winning a Hobie kayak and a trip to Amsterdam.  No guarantees it will be a qualifier next year.

It's very tempting.  Do you still have a spot open? What charity is the event donating to?  :smt003

I do.  Gonna tow my flat bed trailer up and pick up my new to me mini-drifter.  That's going to slow the drive down some.  Thinking I'll head up on Thursday and back on Sunday.

ORC has traditionally donated to children's organizations local to Depoe Bay, although no word yet this year on what org will be receiving a donation.
