Newbie luck ! Went out of Half Moon Bay to Piller Point drifting around the rocks and hooked up with plenty of rock fish , using haibut rigs and herring for bait , took lots of pictures but dropped my un- waterproof camera in the bottom of the yak while trying to contain a 31" ling which i had in my lap ! Water proof camera for sure next trip !

Congratulations on the Ling. Check out the Pentax Optio WP. I own one and so do many other kayak fishermen. It is waterproof and takes a decent photo.

I told you not to get it wet! Remember, I warned you because I dropped one in the water once and had to net it. I also told you that it was only the outside exposures got ruined. It was a bummer because we had just netted a mola mola and those were the shots I lost. When I took your picture there was about 18 shots left. The inside exposures (like the ones I took) might be salvageable.  Tim

Hey Adam (fishunter), your not a newb anymore, you need to meet me at the ocean this weekend. :laughing4: :laughing6:  Were gonna have to slay us some rockies, what ya say?

Sudmucker, way to go on the ling, sorry about the camera, my camera isn't waterproof but I keep it in a dry box at all times until I'm sure there wont be any fish flopping going on.  Seems thats when things get knocked overboard or wet.    Other than that I've never had problems(knock on wood.)  JTF..

I think the "dropped the camera in the drink" club is getting pretty big -at least mine was just one of the Big-5 $20 specials. I just wish it had gone overboard so I wouldn't have it kicking around the closet with me hoping it will have an after-life.
Congrats on the nice ling!

JTF! you are right!I need to get out in the OCEAN,Sudmucker works with me and I got him interested in yak-fishin and he went out and Hooked up!witout me :smt013 I dont want to go out when the conditions are bad and I know its one way or the other when it comes to predicting ocean conditions.I'm kind of waiting/hoping for FLAT conditions and report of  BIG FISH jumping on hooks.Hey!I thought the  NEWBIE label stays for a year like when Rookies get it. :smt003
GOOD LOOKIN OUT!I do need to grow some nuts and get out in it!I just see those 100 rockfish to 1 ling ratio and it is not too inspiring. The surf-launch/getting to them is what keeps me away from them.Does that make any sense?I think I need to go to one of those protected(most of the time areas to get comfortable in my Yak.Next few weekends are booked up for me and I am thankful for trying to get my Rookie-Ass out in it!
