You should!  I'm saying, look for open cracks in the caulking, etc where water can come thru.  You're doing it right as I understand it.

I would be frequenting 88 on my way to 395. I did close to 5000 on flat ground pulling a car trailer and never want to do that again with a small truck. We agree on the weight limits but a standard travel trailer is going to get a lot more wind and harder to tow due to the profile difference from a tent trailer.

How does your tent trailer do with wind, cold and rain? I am planning a road trip to Canada in the fall and expect some cold temps.

with hook ups the heater will run until it uses the propane up, if you are dry camping the batteries won't run the heater fan for a long time.  If the tent gets wet you will need to open the unit up when you get home and let it dry out or risk mold, mildew, and rot.  If it is windy the top will be noisy.  If you have never used a tent trailer there are several different places you can rent them on Craigslist to try them out.

The small egg shell campers like the Scamp, Casitas and Escapes are nice. The wife and I have been looking around for one.
Man I love those trailers so much!  Hope you can find one, I didn't have any luck when I tried.  Must have people asking them to buy them all the time because they seem to hold value.

U talking about the teardrop trailers?   Been wanting to build one from scratch for a number of years.  Few books & plans out there in how to build your own in case you have a lot if spare time on your hands.

This trailer was a bust. The entire front interior was rebuilt due to water damage. Hunt goes on. Renting a tent trailer is a good idea and will give it a try.

If you decide to get a Coleman or Fleetwood tent trailer look for one with an aluminum top, you do NOT want one that has the ABS top.  Lots of problems with the ABS tops on the larger Coleman/Fleetwood tops.  BTW, Coleman/Fleetwood does not build tent trailers anymore.  There is a company that builds a few clones of the Coleman/Fleetwood tent trailers.

I have seen a few tear drops along hwy 99 in the Manteca area, and up in the Sac area.  I have yet to see one in the Bay area.  GF and I would like to check them out.  There seems ot be two styles one with a small kitchen insode, and the other with kitchen to the outside.  Each has its pros and cons.

Years ago I had a friend rent one for the weekend for 500, I bought one for 2500 with all the utensils.  Had it for about 8 years and sold it for 1800.  We used it every summer, cost perweekend outing was less then 50 bucks.

Might find a dealership that does some rentals with applicable rental to apply towards a purchase?  Check with SeeGrins in Gilroy.  Pretty darn large dealership.  They took over a Wal-Mart building & parking lot--- STOCKED full indoors & out.

Here's a cute little vintage trailer. A little pricey for its age and condition.

I hate towing trailers. I have an F350 4x4 with a Lance 1055 Slide in truck camper.  Carry the float tube in the shower and the Yak will go on the roof rack

My wife and I are looking at getting a pop up and adding a bar or rails for the kayaks. Next year we want to try and attend some tournaments and she can't camp in a tent or hammock anymore due to her bad back. Unfortunately I have a 4 cylinder ranger with a max towing capacity of like 1500 lbs. so I'll have to look into another truck most likely if we find a pop up we like. I'd love to have a nice F250 diesel...
