any leads on a good to decent speargun for my first year/years...shorter I would think and sturdy...any help would be great...do they come with a line reel or is that something I have to figure out,,,should I get a pole spear for my first tries? do some inshore perch and such

what else would I need to get started for the gun?

a colored float line for when I drop it?
I'm being serious
thanks for any leads...links

That is a great gun.
I would go with a 70 or 80cm but a 60 will work fine.

Also, get a float line. 35 or 50 foot is a good starting length.

A real is a little more advanced...with a float line it's really hard to lose your gun and you can mark holes.

I have a gun & float line I'd sell.  The gun is over at BigJim's right now.  It's a bit of a NCKA "slug" gun since I think I am now the 4th or 5th owner.  Rumor has it the all mighty Fuzz owned it.  I bought it from EWB I believe about a year or so ago.  I haven;t had it in the water.  Needs new rubbers is all.

I want to build one from bare stock instead.

Drop me a PM if interested.

This should a link to the ad when I bought the gun, float line, weight belt & flashlight.

I am going to have a few more questions before i pull the trigger later today on one...so to speak...work stuff for a bit more...

That is generally what happens when you buy USED :smt003  Otherwise it is NEW :smt005

Sounds like you have a game plan!  Stick with it.

I now have the urge to make one from wood.  Hadn't even planned on selling it till I saw this post.

All good questions.  I wouldn't know where to begin either. I bought the package of stuff knowing I wanted a gun & gear but nothing beyond that  :smt044

If you're going to buy a new gun, go for a Rob Allen 70cm.
IMHO, it's the speargun most suited to norcal diving.
Accurate, durable, and a local company.
Plus they support DOTY.  ;)

As norcalslayer mentioned, use a floatline (vs a reel) to start.  It makes a lot more sense.
