Bmb-
I've got mine mounted on an arm. I'm working on a scpper mount, with a bash guard around the transducer so it can be permanent, but haven't had the time to finish it up...

This theiry, though it sounds backwards, does hold up.  Transducers will transmit through water because it can conduct the high frequency signal.  Solid fiberglass hulls transmit this signal well, though thicker than a kayak hull.  Plastic kayak hulls "dampen" the sound & can slightly alter the frequency during this dampening.  I believ eit is also a rule of thumb that transducers have the same issue with wooden hulls (a no-no for in-hull transducers) and foam cored hulls due to the dampening of the signal created by micro air pockets within the foam.  All my understanding of this.  I'll see if I can pull the technical data on this from the Airmar site.

Bill

Would the scupper mount on new Hobies damped their effect too? They do have to shoot through a little plastic cover.

The scupper mount won't affect it.  The transducer actually mounts to that Hobie plastic plate.

Regarding the earlier statement, though truthful, the amount of loss you will get from shooting thru the plastic does exist but is so very small, it is not something you will be concerned about.  The thicker the plastic, the greater this loss can be (though still small).

Works great inside the Hobie Transducer plate cover.  I've done 3 trips, 2 saltwater and 1 FW on my 2015 Revo 13.

If you can only install the transducer inside your kayak,  do a water bath method.
That was my set up on my 2012 Revo 13 which did not come with an outside Transducer Cover.

Great choices.  I was over at Carmel last weekend, I could see marks of mixed grade RF.  Thanks to the Dragonfly I could stay on top of productive areas.

I too am looking to purchase the dragonfly gold - I saw it online from a place in FL. No tax. I believe they are - Baron USA - anyone have any experience with them? So far great communication.

I'm a newbie here to Kayak fishing - what is the water bath transducer method install?

Thanks,
Ken

Cut out a piece of foam instead.  On my last kayak I didn't goop the foam.  I just put electrical putty around it.  No leaks.

That's a fantastic deal and you should post that on its own thread.
