I wish they would build something like that on the 50 corridor.
Cabela's, Scheels, Bass Pro, Sportsman's Warehouse, Dicks...something...anything!

Supposed to be a Sportsman Wharehouse coming this year on Sunrise. Right off 50. Where the KFART was.

REALLY???
Sweet!

Not to stir thing to those who are stoke about having BPS in SJ, however I am more of a local tackle shop supporters. Specially those who sponsors and support NCKA cause, not to mentioned some even gives NCKA members discounts. I wouldnt like to see some of my local shops gets push around by some corporate asses. Just saying :smt006

But when the local shops don't carry 75% of what you are looking for it's nice to have options.
Or when I have to go to a dozen local shops to get what I need or one shop to get the 12 things I need, I'll choose the one stop shop every time.

I think both are necessity, learn what the local guy has buy there first, make a list go to the big box.

As for sponsors, again need both, I have run a few tournaments, find that local shops many times get the big companies on board help cover the costs of their donations.

What I stay away from is any sponsor big or small that asks to be only sponsor for their particular type of product, they don't appreciate that the event is about raising money for charity and everyone involved is working for free. The more sponsors, the more prizes, the more web sites, magazines, forums the more publicity the more you raise for your cause.

   article read,,,
This store has an incredibly loyal and devoted following that drive an average of more than 50 miles to get to their closest store and stay an average of 2.5 hours per visit.               No more driving to Manteca.

I drove by BPS Manteca 5 times last week and stopped once. Looked around at the gun stuff and left without making a purchase.

Glad to hear Sportsmen's Warehouse is coming to Sac. It will be a nice option for shooting/sporting supplies.

Fisherman's Warehouse Sacramento is close to home and usually my first stop for fishing gear.

Baitman nothing has changed, I worked for an independent auto parts store years ago. The owner of that store had been in business since 1928. He said what you said. But it has always been that way. Some shopping is habit, but if you don't carry enough stuff. People will learn of other places and break that habit, as well! There is a stocking rule that seems to work. Twenty percent of what you stock, should make eighty percent of your sales. You need the other eighty percent of stock to keep people coming back. I worked as the parts manager for the local John Deere Dealer. They went to a corporate setting and the bottom line and turn over is all they look at. I have had many of my old customers come to me and say "they don't stock anything anymore". That is what the challenge the local tackle stores will have. Their advantage will be that they will have local knowledgeable people working for them. And this is the tough part. Pay them enough that they will stay and build a relationship with their customers. The only way to fight a big box is to be better than they are. Have your customers smile on the way out of your store. And when there is a problem fix it right then, sometime you have to bite the bullet and eat something. You all saw what happened here when a customer is up set. Soon they bag on the owner. then many jump on the ship, and it snow balls. Look and see how good head waters seems to help all you guys out up there. And what I hear is great service. I'm sure none of their past customers will jump that ship to save a couple bucks. Had I lived in your area I would have bought one from them. But a 6 hour drive one way I couldn't justify.

SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!

All true,,,    I'm just a bit jaded from what I've seen, not just here on this forum, but with pm's as well as what get's posted.
There's the sponsors and shops like Fishermans Warehouse that host events constantly,,, yet look how quickly so many members  have turned towards "other shops" ( including online/ out of state ) that haven't contributed squat,,, all for a lower price.
Then then we have the "Promo-Staff"  type wanna-be's... all looking for the free hand outs, with "What will you give me,  if I promote your brand " on their lips.     Like I said,,, look how quickly they forget their neighbors when some far off corporate suits make a better offer.
That's  most of America in general these days.  All talking about their  patriotism while standing under a flag purchased at a big box store, made in some far off communist country.    :smt011

Let's not confuse the issues.  Local stores carry foreign made goods too.
