I think you're probably getting skewed results here..the folks that are replying to the thread are most likely the most active members of the site, so you're not getting a proper cross section of the website's population.  I'm sure if it was spread across 2000 of us the numbers would be lower than 75% with 2+ yaks.  Anyways, I have three right now which is about the max amount I'm willing to maintain.  When I buy my next one (which I'm working on), I'll be selling one of mine.

And you're making the assumption that members that are not as active actually are different than members that are more active, in terms of kayak ownership.

All I know is that there are 78 kayak anglers that own 191 kayaks.  The average number of kayaks per anglers in this group is 2.45.

Sorry, I meant to say that it would be my guess that members that are not as active would be less likely to have 2 kayaks or more.  I highly doubt that the 2.45 fishing kayaks/angler ratio would hold true, but I don't know diddly so I'm just stirring shit up!

Why would being active on an internet forum make you any more addicted to kayak ownership?

I would rely upon the marketing term, reach.  The more active you are in the forum, the more you understand the use for multiple fishing kayaks, the more you are infected by the madness.  The less involved you are, the more likely you are to be happy with your Costco Pelican kayak and fumbling around on Shadow Cliffs (I've seen these guys).  Just through sheer probability I doubt that more than 50% of kayak fishermen have more than 1 kayak for their own use.  They may have more if they have family though.  I think we just happen to be park of a kayak crazy group and that's what causes us to have more than others.

Anectodally, the non-NCKA kayakers I meet when I'm out fishing (I'm very friendly) often say they only have one kayak.  I often ask that question as well as the one, "Have you ever heard of NCKA?"

Something here is a "reach".    :smt005

BTW, we have 200K unique visitors here a year.  Do we really think that a core group of us are so different than the masses?  All because we participate on an internet forum?  There are another 199K lurkers out there getting the same information.

As sad as it is to admit, I have to agree with Ben on this one.  I was introduced to NCKA through a member well before I made my first kayak purchase.  Before reading and reviewing many of the posts I figured anything that was plastic and was able to float would more than suite my needs - I was wrong.  A week after joining the site, I bought a brand new outback.  As I started fishing with other members and posting more frequently on the site, I began to see the disadvantages of owning the outback.  Again, after hunting around a bit on the site and getting totally blown away by Abdivers anchor trolley system post, I knew I needed a T13.  And it continued.  After seeing enough posts about Jackson kayaks and their very nice seating arrangements, I then felt the need go add a more "comfortable" rig to my collection.  That was about the end.  Due to a variety of things going on at the time, I began to post less as well as fish less out of my kayak.  Didn't want to buy the Jackson, sold the outback and then a year later sold the Trident.  Down to zero.  Now I want a PA12.  I'm sure if I make a few more posts and spend an extra couple hours on the site, I'll get one - soon.  :smt001
