Sport's Chalet in Pleasanton has always had a pretty good selection compared to most chain sporting goods stores.  It's been a while since I have been there so I'm not sure what it's like lately.  There's also a new Dick's in Dublin but the selection is nothing compared to places like Outdoor Pro Shop.  Unfortunately for us East Bay guys, a trip to Outdoor Sports  Pro in Cotati on the way to the Sonoma Coast is about the only really good option.  It seems like a good opportunity for a decent retailer to makes some money exists in the East Bay.

Discount tackle in el.cerrito/ Richmond, over by the home depot is just ok.  They aren't as stocked as outdoor pro but better than sports authority.  Outdoor pro.closing in Oakland was truly devastating.  :smt010

Yup and "discount mart" is crazy freaking expensive. They have most of what we need but the prices are insulting. I hit up the OPS in rohnert park a couple times a year and call it good.

Wish we had other options...

They are building a Dicks sporting goods near kohls in concord and the Dublin location has a good fishing section. Due to the lack of retailers in the east bay I make a lot of Cabelas orders.

That closed too. It is now Sports Authority, with no fishing section. :smt012

Crap, Thanks for info. I might have headed up there without checking,  I went to the one in Dublin/Pleasanton before Xmas but wasn't looking at fishing gear,

Dick's is a good place for fishing stuff.  Not a great place. But a good one since they do carry some local products and they have most of the terminal tackle that you need (like barbless circle hooks, torpedo weights and egg sinkers cheap, etc).  Sport Chalet in pleasanton isn't bad either.

I told Dicks to take me off their rewards card system. I will not shop there. Because of how Dicks treated people on existing gun orders. That were put in before X-mas 2012. If they wanted to quit selling guns, that was one thing. But to stop a transaction on a person, whom had ordered a gun a month before, was unfair to their customer. I thought to myself I don't want to be treated that way. They could listen to peta and stop selling fishing tackle. So I took the stand that customer service is important to me.

Tim,

There are some choices if you don't mind crossing a bridge:

  • Sweeney's in Napa is a great place with execellent service.  All the folks there are knowledgeable and, get this, helpful.  Unlike the chain stores, you will get to talk to people who really know their stuff
  • Benicia Bait & Tackle is a family owned place where you can get live baits and other supplies.   Selection is OK.
  • Just around the corner from Benicia B&T is the Todd's Custom rod.  Todd is a really good guy to talk to.  While his main business is in custom rods, but he has a fairly good selection of supplies and will more than happy to share his experience with you about various places where he fishes.

I know the pain you are in since we live in the same general area.

The Dublin Dicks sporting goods Has a pretty decent selection of fresh/saltwater tackle.  Also Sports Chalet in Dublin.

Walton's Pond on WAshington blvd in San Leandro is my first stop.  John is a straight up guy with a shop full of bass gear.  He is stocking up on more salt gear since he spends a lot of time in La Paz.  By local!
