Okay, who here would buy a Model S or X if they could? At $80,000 they're out of my price range. If they were half the price, I might go for it. Free charging for life at the Supercharging stations, up to 265 mile range (best range of any EV on the market), and pretty damn cool. You could even put your fish cooler in the "frunk" (the front trunk) to keep the stink out!

Don't Drive one!!!!!! Those that like speed and power should avoid it! When you stomp the accelerator pedal to the floor from a stop. No burnout! What it does do is shoot forward with such speed and control that you can't figure how to get one soon enough. I, like Racinrob, drag raced for many years. The S model was awesome! powering threw corners and flashing down strait a ways was just plain old fun! The Quiet whoosh as you speed along is akin to Kayaking. Again, DON'T drive one 'cause you will want one... This IS the future of electric cars... All will be copying it soon...  :smt003 Ya, some caught fire but they corrected that problem... Future models are going to be even better...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

The fires were blown out of proportion by the media. Two hit large pieces of debris which punctured the battery pack and started a fire, but not before the car warned the drivers to pull over immediately. An ICE car without the battery pack there might have been impaled, possibly hitting the driver. The fire in Mexico occurred after an S went through a brick wall and into a tree at 100MPH. The driver walked away with minor injuries.

The upcoming X is going to be an SUV! Only problem is the falcon wings would prevent racks from going up top, unless they come up with something clever and I bet they will.

I also heard they're going to make a pickup in about 5 years.

i've seriously considered a S model...not that I can afford it.  We talked about an X also but I'm not a huge fan of the wings.  For now I'll stick with my 180k mile outback.

HOLY CRAP!!!  I drove a friend's Model S with the performance  package.  Without a doubt, it is the fastest car I have ever driven. I'm a child of the fifties and drove some fast cars.  When you hit the "gas" there is no delay, not a bit, just zoom!  There is no way I could put it to the floor; GD scary!

also check out greencarreports.com . they cover everything from electrics to hybrids and even hydrogen fuel cells. found the site by accident through my google plus account.

those of us who are p/u owners and visit that site often do have to stand and fight from time to time because the absolute greenies with knee jerk reactions hate us and all trucks. according to them, we should be put to death. Thankfully the editor in chief does a really good job of keeping things under control.

and yes there will be greener trucks coming. starting in '15 with the dog, er, dodge ram 1500 eco diesel. supposedly it will get around 28 mpg and have 260 hp and be coupled to an 8 speed automatic. guess we wait and see on that.

f150's went almost all aluminum for '14, shedding almost 780lbs.jury is still out on the fuel economy though.

For those of us who would love to have a model s or x, mice elf included, good affordable alternatives are available in the form of the Chevy sparc, Chevy volt, fusion plug ins or hybrids or Nissan leaf.

a good gas burning alternative might be the newest mazda 6. little puppy is considered a mid sized and gets 40 mpg.

bear in mind, from what I've learned from friends within the automotive industry, almost all EV;s and hybrids are leased not purchased, so for $3000 down you could get a Sparc or Cruze EV [ they even have a diesel model] for about $225 a month for 3-4 years.

my daily round trip commute is 56 miles in support of our troops, mostly on the heavily congested part of I5 in south western Washington.  if I could find a charging station near or on JBLM, WA I'd think hard about an EV. like many of us, my biggest concern is range, though there are accounts of at least 3 coast to coast trips in teslas and nissans.
hope my two cents helps.

mice elf!  LOL

It's looking better every year for EV.
I love my my Ex's 04 mazda6.  but the interior is chintzy...  ATD is a fan of the ford focus but ask him for details if you want...

hah! life long ford owner here. not interested in non American marquees. focus, ehh it's went upscale finally but it costs more now than my XR 7 and T bird did in '88.

If you're seriously considering a tesla, you owe it to yourself to visit their website and take an hour or two to explore it. to say it's educational is not really doing it justice, it's that good.

btw, a childhood friend back east restores turn of the century vehicles for collectors. she's got both a Maxwell and a REO in her shop for the last 5 years. they're both electric. one was used in NYC hauling fruit, the other belonged to the Westinghouse factory in Northumberland Penna until it closed in 1947.  Funny seeing all those rubber cased wet cell  batteries moving a wood framed 3 ton capacity vehicle on wood spoke wheels, but It worked. [first EV was 1837 in case you didn't know]

mice elf!  LOL

Ehhh, what can I say? :smt102 Speech to text isn't what it's cracked up to be... and, that is kind of amusing... can you imagine a pointy eared elven mouse???  :smt044

BTW, Model X? Taking orders now. what I found impressive was that you could seat 7 six foot men in there, and have room in the back for 5 full sized suitcases, plus a large roller duffel, plus a ton of other gear, and you still have about the equivalent of a standard refrigerator worth of space in the front where an ICE vehicle would have the engine, for more gear... and the falcon wing doors allow you to stand up under them too. That would have been a nice feature to have had when my parents were alive and I had to move them from wheelchairs to the car... would'a saved  a shit ton of back sprain and other hassle when getting them to an from the horsepiddles....

Hmmm I think I just had an idea regarding possibilities for a small business...........
