Trust me, you will end up buying both like most of us here. One Hobie and one paddle kayak. :smt004 It really boils down to what you are fishing for, where, and the weather you're faced with.

MadMedik,

It's hard to describe the amount of control you have for trolling with the mirage drive. It is laser tight on a Hobie. I have the deep sailing rudder on the Adventure (so maybe that helps some) but I could not make the tight passes along banks and cover that I do with electric trolling motors etc. Not gonna happen. Your legs pushing on the pedals will dial in the exact speed you want without even consciously thinking about it. The control is fabulous. And you can troll all day without getting tired! The mirage drive can troll speeds from crawling a 1/16th oz. crappie jig (S-L-O-W) to fast ripping big ass crank baits. It really is that good.

You need to think of it as paying $1500 for a Hobie kayak and $500 for the mirage drive!

Why don't you tell us, who you are asking to defend and extrapolate on a certain brand, just what you are looking for in a fishing kayak. How old are you? How much do you weigh? How tall are you? What kind of fishing do you see yourself mostly doing? Are you going to be in saltwater or fresh water more? Do you want to paddle or peddle? Do you fly fish? Do you need to be able to stand in the kayak? Will you be traveling down river systems? Do you have any injuries that would restrict your movement or abilities? These are the questions we need to point you in the right direction. As there are many various types of watercraft made by each company. To ask a general question such as you are doesn't really get you into the boat you want for your needs.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

hahaha Good one. I love Hobie products. They are one of the best put together products on the market. Everything is very well thought out before just running it out to the public. My knees are trashed or I would have one. Believe me.  One paddle boat. One peddle boat.

Revo 13 is a great boat to peddle, but sucks to paddle, does not track well at all. You have to use the rudder which is kinda of annoying since you have to continuously make micro adjustments to stay straight taking time away from your stroke. You also need the mirage drive plug or overcome the drag of the open hole.

If I have to paddle my outback I won't use the rudder. I feel there is more control with a paddle with no rudder. Seems to make sense to me.

If you still find the need for a trolling motor, there is one made that fits in the mirage drive well by Torquido.

Thanks Vic! I was not trying to be too assertive in my request. Sorry if I came off like that. Now that your needs and physical parameters have been somewhat brought to light a few suggestions can be made as to get you demoing a certain specific style of fishing platform. Ill send you a PM with my phone number and we can talk only if you would like to. Craig

The hobie is the best fishing machine.  It gets you there fast and keeps you on the fish.  Its also great in wind and drift.  However if you want the "whole" experience, you also need to paddle.  There is something about the quiet, rythm you get into on some flat water.  You can hear the drips of the water and really get in tune with your surroundings.  Its much more therapeutic......

I started paddling, Necky, OKs, ...
I'm a cyclist, and spend a lot of time trolling. When I first saw the AI I knew it was the platform for me.
I fish more long distance locations now than I ever did paddling. And now, the wind is my friend.
In crappy conditions the AI just excels.
